Puppy Hernias Empty Puppy Hernias

Hi all....again *sorry*

I got told by my vet yesterday that Saffy has a small hernia. She then proceeded to say that they will repair it when she is spayed. I don't want my Saffy spayed until she has matured or 3 years old (I told the vet this). Anyway, she said that hernias in animals are very common but she is at risk of it rupturing(? Or something along them lines)

I am just wondering whether any other people have had this with their animals and whether you guys got it fixed or how your animals did? Is it something I could leave for 3 years? I wanted to do agility with her when she's older too.

Saffy is on a raw diet and is now eating bones and I'm a little concerned that bones may irritate it or make it 'pop out' more.

Oh and Saffy brother has it, but worse, so I will pass along any info to MIL

Many thanks Smile

If it's just a small one, it may go away by itself, or it might just stay as it is & not bother her.

Did the vets say they could repair it without spaying?

Well I am hoping that it may go by itself. You can see it, she has an 'outy' belly button, if you know what I mean. So I can monitor it visually myself.

The vet kept trying to push for spaying Caryll. Talking about the increased risk of mammary cancer, to spay her before 6 mths will be better for her etc. To which I kept replying that I know the pros and cons but wanted to stick to my decsion and all that I wanted to know about was the risk the hernia posed. But I didn't get a straight answer! I don't know why, but I have a feeling it's because of her breed. My vet never pushed like that with my Yorkies, she just advised and accepted whenever I had it done. Just a feeling tho.

Although I didn't explain about my concerns about RAW bones or agility, because my cat was there also and stressed out.

I would get it fixed, but my opinion is she's too young to have anaesthetic until shes alot older yet. I don't want to take that risk with her.
