Puppy party not sure whether to go again
We went to the puppy party today, and Ruby was awful with the smaller pups, snapping, yapping, pummelling them into the floor, and when they cried out even if she wasnt hurting (just a sniff of a butt made one of them scream!) them she seemed to get worse. She was fine with the larger dogs in daycare, but smaller dogs in puppy party she just went to town on them. It was sooooo embarrassing. So she rulled the roost for maybe 15 mins, all smaller pups than her, then a 13week old akita pup wanders in with his owner, and Ruby ran for it quickest turnaround ever i swear. He ambled his way in, found Ruby and the pair of them had a very energetic hour. It did seem quite aggressive, but i think it was all noise, no harm done to either and they were playing tuggy with some toys together too. Bit of a panic moment when blood was spotted on the akitas fur, but after a quick check over Ruby spat out one of her back puppy teeth so thats where the blood had appeared from. Not sure whether to take her again or just stick with the daycare instead, she just seemed to be such a thug 3 smaller pups (a bichon x spaniel, a cocker spaniel and a JRT x staff) all seemed terrified of Ruby and i felt terrible for them all as she wouldnt leave them be.

Re: Puppy party not sure whether to go again
It sounds like a bit of a free for all which I'm not a fan of, good puppy parties are great but out of control ones are a nightmare IMO.
It should be a good experience for all. If she starts being OTT with other pups and is ignoring their signals then she should be taken to the side for a time out for a few minutes. Allowing her to continue is teaching her she can be a bully and teaching the other pups to be afraid of other dogs. Not good.
ETA: If it was me then I'd go again but just take her to the side for a minute or two like I mentioned every time she goes over the top or doesn't pay any attention to what the other pups are telling her. She should soon learn that to have fun playing with the other pups she needs to tone it down a bit

Re: Puppy party not sure whether to go again
I'd go again and look for as many other socialization opportunities as possible. She is still just a pup and socializtion is very important. If you are reluctant to let her interact with other dogs or people she will learn that is the way things are supposed to be. As a breed they tend to play rough but can learn to be very gentle with smaller dogs it just takes time and practice. Your body language and mood will also play a role in how she reacts. Try to remain calm and learn about body language and what proper play looks like. If she does get overly excitied seperate her from the other dogs for a few minutes and try again. Here is a link on body language that should help

Id go again, its what the parties are for anyway. she will never know how to react to smaller dogs if she is never allowed near them. its also good for the smaller puppies as well. over time you will see there confidence grow and she will be more gentle. she just needs a timeout period when it gets a bit much, remember it will have been very exciting for her and she will just want to play the staffy way. she will soon learn dont worry.

Re: Puppy party not sure whether to go again
Ruby was just toughening the smaller pups up! More than likely they will be the same when they are older. But I can understand how you felt a little embarrased, but those pups are learning from it too. They will meet excited dogs in their lifetime so it's good practice lol
Oh and I love that pic! In the background you can see a little brindle pup hiding behind his owner, watching Ruby and the Akita

Re: Puppy party not sure whether to go again
Thank you everyone for your input, have had a read of the link thank you for that, very informative. I still dont know for sure exactly what she was doing, it looks and appears aggressive but although she does have extremely sharp puppy canines still she didnt hurt any of the pups, not even a nick, a whole lot of noise and being bowled over though. It did appear terrible though! I like the cool down idea, and they have a sectioned off area with a gate between that and the main area so i could ask them if i could use it as a time out part for a minute or 2 if she gets too much again. Im still in 2 minds about whether to go again, the lady that runs it said we are fine to go back and she feels it would be a bit better the next time but with all the familes/kids around the dogs were more excited than they would be without, and most of the other owners quickly lifted their pups up when roo got too much so they cried even louder when put back down again so i figure they were reinforcing their pups screaming/terror reaction to being squished or chased.
Yes that akita was soooooo fluffy, he felt lovely, proper teddy bear puppy though he was a bit OTT about the water bowl and both him and ruby got a bit snappy when they tried having a drink at the same time. The little brown guy peeking form behind the lady was a staffy x jack russell the same colour as Ruby, he was the most confident of all the smaller pups, he did run away but you could see he desparately wanted to play, he did attempt a few butt sniffs and was the only smaller pup to happily run around away from his owners.
Becki will you be taking Sky in for the next party? I would love to see them play together. Oh and Ruby is booked in for a second days daycare on Tuesday 17th, will Sky be going to daycare by then? Roo will be in all day, from 8am until about 5.15 when my husband collects her
