Age/Teething questions
Hi all
iv been having a look around and most of you are saying that my pup should nearly have his teeth by now going by what age the vet told me he was but iv only just noticed his first two teeth coming through even though he should now be about 6 months, is this normal or did the vet get his age wrong? would uploading a picture help you guys out a bit more?
thanks in advance
Tom

Re: Age/Teething questions
Hi Tom all dogs are individual they say a stafford should have all its full adult teeth at around 9mnths, but some take alittle longer, if you want too post a picture we are all quite staffie experienced we maybe able too help with his age if you are unsure, but your vet should know best.

My harv had all his adult teeth by 6 months old, most dogs tend to start teething at 4ish months

Re: Age/Teething questions
I'd say that teething at 6 months is very late. Most dogs (whatever the breed) have their full set by 6 months, maybe a couple of weeks later but not too much more.
The pic, to me, looks a bit younger than 6 months. In fact, looking back at the first pic you posted in May, I would say that he was probably only about 3 months old or so in that pic! Where did you get him from?

Your pup looks very similar too my girl who is 5n half months and she is still teething and does not have all her adult teeth yet, the stafford anatomy book i always reasearched from says 6/9mnths too develop a full set of teeth.

Yes, I'd say he's only about 4 months or so old now, although it's so hard to tell from pics. It would be very unusual for a pup to not start teething until 6 months old. I'm not saying it's impossible, but I've never heard of it in 40 years.

Yes, but that's a full set of adult teeth - teething should (and usually does) start from 3 months old.

I'v only had Bella since friday and she seems pretty good so far but I expect her chewing tendencies will go up a notch or ten in the next few weeks

Re: Age/Teething questions
By 6 mths as Caryll has stated the full set of adult teeth are in place. The 4 long K9's may not be of full adult size yet, but they are in place

Re: Age/Teething questions
Most dog i know have a full set of adult teeth by 6 months. By 9 months seems VERY late to me

Re: Age/Teething questions
so verdict here is that the vet didnt age him right rather then late teething?

Yes, but the vet says he's 6 months - to be honest he doesn't look much older than about 4 months now, how the vet could think he's older is beyond me.

I would say so. It might be that the vet doesn't have much experience with staffs & has guessed the age wrong.

Re: Age/Teething questions
he did say it would be hard to tell until his teeth came through. it kinda sucks, i would love to have a rough date i could go off of so i could keep track of his age, would you say the start of feb would be close to his Bday?

Re: Age/Teething questions
If the K9's fangs as you refer to them as are erupting the gum, then his about 5mths old. ( i'm going on when my pup Cookies K9's came though, and her litter brothers did ... both were 5mths old )
