i cant handle this
Sky has been brilliant all day..i went to the toilet walked back in the room and she has ripped my pajama bottoms in half..and bit me and drew blood..i had to restrain her and put her in her crate but i cant handle this it has bought me into tears..does anybody else go through this..she is 15 weeks old. She is well toilet trained, knows sit, lay etc but occasionally she does this too an extreme extent. she has loads of toys..has been walked up and down hills so it cant be boredom or energy levels..its really getting to me

Re: i cant handle this
Yes shes at the wat i call "trying it on age", Kodis the same I woke up this morning to find him ripping my new super dry jacket and the bag it was in to peices, then he pee'd on the kids bedroom floor (hes normally 100% with going outside), then he decided 1 of the cats needed chasing, then dug a huge hole, stole pack of baby wipes n shredded them, got 1 of my daughters on the floor and nipping her, then got caught chewing the wicker washing bin............the list goes on
That was only in the past 12hrs
But it will pass honest

Re: i cant handle this
My partner and I were only discussing how much Heston has changed since we brought him home. He tore a hole in my new jeans, chewed my partners new watch strap and sunglasses to pieces, deliberately got on the sofa and peed on it, licked a toad and nipped a friends child...That was just in a week and we were just astonished he was capable of so much!!!
I absolutely promise that with a firm demeanour and patience, she will get better and better.....then one day you'll be laughing about it all, Hang in there!!!

Re: i cant handle this
When she gets like this try a command word that she knows really well like SIT then give her a few moments to calm down. Sounds like excitement and normal puppy behaviour.

Re: i cant handle this
I think we all go through this. If she chews something she shouln't replace it with something she is allowed to have and will like better. She is also teething making her want to chew more. Have plenty of frozen treats on hand like a kong or sliced vegetabels
For nipping she is just seeking attention. Have everyone in the house turn around and ignore her everytime. It will take a bit of time but it does get better.

Aw, hun, take comfort from the fact that most of us have been there, done that & have the scars to prove it! It does get better - just take heed of all the advice you've been given & keep reminding yourself that she doesn't actually mean to hurt you - it's just what puppies do.
Just as a matter of interest, what are you feeding her & when? And is she teething?

Pups will be pups. This is the time where unfortunately lots of people give up and get rid. Stick at it and you will have a lovely dog in the end.

Don't know if this applies, but Callie usually goes nuts once or twice a day. Zooming, snapping, tearing at things. We pop her in her crate and she's often snoring in 2 mins, and her usual sweet self after a nap. Is it by chance when Sky is tired?

Re: i cant handle this
long walks how long for? becasue if you walk puppy well puppy from 10 weeks to a year for to long walk you can damage the dog bone and joint which will cost 1000s to get fix a little warning there
Re: i cant handle this
A Staffy pup around that age can be an amazing AND horrible time for you in equal measure's unfortunately ... and as said, the time when a lot of owners just think ... "ya know what, I cant do this" ... and thats one of the reasons why there are thousands of Staffy's without a home
but IT WILL PASS, so please dont give up, you will have a devoted and incredible companian in the end and wonder how you ever coped without them
Max was a "difficult" pup, and tested even my resolve (and I've been through it a few times before) and tho he is still a very spirited dog, he is brilliant and I wouldnt be without him for anything

Re: i cant handle this
As Andy says , you just have to ride it. Tilly was a little nipper when she was younger and could give you a test. At nearly 2 years old she is so fantastically well behaved it's unbelievable. Please don't let it get to you it is a phase and if you put the work in you will get the rewards back. I'm going through it now with Tommy and daren't even be in his presence without shoes on as all the No's, high pitched squeals, do not work and he just seems to love mine and the OH toes and blood is drawn most times, he will rip up anyhting he can get his hands on and is a real terror, BUT we can see he's got a whole lot braver over the couple of weeks we've had him and I believe we can see he has hit the peak in his attitude and is starting to learn a few lessons. It just takes time and effort

Re: i cant handle this
Rosco jumped up and bit a hole in my pjs this morning and nipped my skin in the process, yesterday he went for my daughters face and cut her lip, he went for mine today but a firm no and he thought again, he runs off with anything he can find, he's a cheeky bugger and has worked out that my son has chews in his room so keeps crying outside his door. When he's naughty i just put him in his crate for a bit.

I can so agree with this. I can remember Tyson atthat age when I seriously considered my sanity in deciding to get a pup. All to soon however, they grow up and I know you might not believe this but you do miss those bad old days with a good spoonful of humour.
Lots of good advice given for you to ponder.

Re: i cant handle this
I have read all the posts and believe me we have all been there, i bet we can all remember one point wether we care too admit too this or not that we have sat there in a room of destruction generally with some needle point holes in some part of our anatomy staring at a little bunde of staffyness say OMG what have i done all puppies go through this and sometimes that just get hyper it for no reason what so ever they test the rules and our role as leader but as the other say patience which may mean time out for you and pup at times consistancy and you will get there i promise xx

i sympathise with you , believe it or not i used to cry at how much Trouble hurt me ...my arms honestly looked like i had been self harming and at one point i was willing to give him up but i persisted and i had a naughty corner for him, if he hurt me or bit me he would be put out of the room . he soon learnt and now 3 and half years down the line i wouldnt dream of giving him up .

Re: i cant handle this
Ah, memories! Seriously, we've all been there. I know at the time its absolutely horrendous and you think you're stuck with a devil dog that is never going to change but it does get better. As long as you are firm and consistent at all times, she will get better. There will be moments when you wonder what you're doing to yourself, and you'll consider giving her up, but hang in there, it'll be worth it in the end. Sometimes it seems like its 2 steps forward then 50 steps back but honestly, its normal.
And just a warning, between 7 and 18ish months (the teenage stage), they can be little horrors again for a while, and this can seem worse because they're bigger and stronger and it can sometimes seem like all your hard work is being undone, but just ride it out and keep reminding her who is boss because you will be rewarded with an amazing dog when she has matured and got through the pup and teenage phase. Good luck, and we're here for advice or to listen when you need to let off some steam

Its good to know theres a light at the end of the tunnel! Ruby is testing us on more and more occassions. Her recall is getting a bit hit and miss from time to time when out now, but for the most part apart from her jumping up and nipping at the kids shes pretty good for 17weeks. I seem to easily forget shes just a baby still. Roll on the teenage times with her....think il glue her paws to the floor

Re: i cant handle this
i have 2 staffies one 7 and skye who is 1 , skye has been a handfull for the last 10 months , she did the biting thing we found that if we put our thumbs in her mouth and held the bottom of her jaw with the other finger under the mouth , over a period she stopped . We have had more problems with her eating her poo But again she is much better now When you get a staffie they are so rewarding but are hard work at the start , keep going and love there smiles
