Puppy in the rain
Here's the thing, Beau is amazing usually at letting us know when she needs to go out to do her business. She is really great on the lead and often sits barking at her lead to let me know its time for her walk. Now the good old British weather is back to rain I cant seem to get her off my door step! Even in a really light drizzle. She parks her butt down on the door step and refuses to move!! I have sat on the cold wet floor to encourage her, i have tried to tempt her with treats and squeaky toys. If I pick her up she scrams and attempts to bite me!
Is there any advice that you can offer? Should I not be taking a 14 week old puppy out in the rain? When its raining she will also pee/poop on the door mat!!
I am reluctant to carry her as I dont want the kids to be carrying her around!

Callie hates the rain too, particularly this spring when it was sometimes cold. Have you tried taking her out under a big umbrella? I had to carry her out under it a few times, now she seems to understand that if she doesn't want to get wet she just needs to stick close to me.

Re: Puppy in the rain
Callie gets in the shower with me and tries to bite the lawn sprinkler. She only hates water that comes from the sky...crazy girl...
Beau is adorable too! If you can, post a full-on face shot, he looks a lot like Callie from the side. As for the photos, I stalk her (and my kids) with my camera. No one seems to enjoy that but me.

Re: Puppy in the rain
You could also try a light raincoat. Pups have quite thin fur & she might not like the feel of the rain on her skin.

I must be a meany then !
When Tank won't go out in the rain to do his business I literally boot him out and close the patio door behind him, he knows he won't be coming bk in until he'd done the dodo. I didn't wanna be in a situation where he would refuse.
Diesel my 14mth old nips out does the business superfast and runs bk in.
Ive walked Tank in light drizzle, it wasn't cold at all, pretty humid, he was fine and loved it.

Re: Puppy in the rain
I have to say that I'm cruel. I've never put up with a dog not wanting to go out just cause the weather's rotten.
I just drag em.

I've done the same with Tommy today , 5 pees in the house this morning as I think I let him in too soon , no more Mr nice guy !! Out he goes , shut the door and then go back out on puddle check, no puddle , no getting in He did get a nice rub down when he got in though and a reward for being a good boy, seems a very slow learner though or a patience tester !!

Re: Puppy in the rain
Lola will go out when she is bursting for the loo in the rain. However she scuttles back in as soon as she is finished! She refuses point blank to go for a walk when it is raining, she just cries and shivers whereas Lily doesn't care what the weather is she just loves her walks. I am like Lola I hate bad weather, if I only had one dog ie Lola we would snuggle up on sofa and watch telly in bad weather and refuse to leave house! I just take Lily out when its raining

We use a raincoat for Suki. If she just needs to go out to do her business we just open the door and she goes as fast as possible

Re: Puppy in the rain
thanks everyone for the comments! lots of pees in house today :-( Beau just plonks herself by the back door - which is still always open reguardless of weather - today she has taken to doing the business in her crate which is not a great thing but hey ho joys of a puppy!!
I think im gonna have to start being a meany although Beau holds grudges and will sulk for hours when she has had a "row"

I used to shove Zac out the door shut it and then watch him. Didn't take him long to work out that if he's quick he don't get as wet and the door opened quicker lol. Once Obi is able to go in the garden (it's a build site at the moment) to do what a boy's gotta do he'll get the same treatment
