Staff pup and cat
Hello (am new!)
I am picking up my beautiful staffy pup Quartz (6 weeks in picture) in 1 week 4 days (so excited!) Everything is ready and of course, have been doing plenty of reading in the meantime.
I also have a 9 month kitty Onyx. He has had much experience with dogs so far (he frequents my parents' house and they have 2 German Shepherds and 1 Staffy x) and plays everyday with my sister's Pom, so I don't think there will be much problems on his side.
I was just wondering how best to introduce my puppy to his new brother? Does anyone have experience of introducing a staffy to their cat? How did it go?
Ohhh, am so excited for his arrival!!

Re: Staff pup and cat
Tilly's still spitting up white fur balls
Our cats lurk outside and don't come in the house so Tilly sees them as a plaything to chase in the garden (never caught one yet though) If the cats had been more homely then it's really important they interact from an early age as possible. You will come across some really great dog / cat pics on here when they get along

Re: Staff pup and cat
Hi,
we have 2 adult house cats who grew up with our previous staff x, when we introduced Tinsel the older one took longer to get used to a new boundy pup, but the younger cat (just over yr old) loves her to bits, you just have to watch the play, as pup can go a bit overboard and tries to bite her ears as they do with litter mates, but as long as you keep an eye and tell pup no if it gets a bit too rough, or whatever command you want to use, we use 'calm' when Tinsels going a bit too overboard.
Also make sure the kitty has a place that they can get away safely and just feel that they can go when they want to sleep or be quiet.
They should be fine together, nothing funnier than to see the cat chasing the dog around then swapping and doing it the other way

Re: Staff pup and cat
My cat is 13 yrs old and hates Diesel!
She just hisses and swipes whenever Diesel comes near so the cat tends to stay outside or upstairs.
I know my cat will give me the WTF ! Look when I bring the new pup home next week lol !

Re: Staff pup and cat
Puppies are still tiny, so real harm wont be a huge issue. As steve said just make sure it doesn't get over excited and scare the kitten. Otherwise just let them get on with it! Look forward to seeing pics
