Is he really a staffy?

Hi, I am new to this forum.

My husband and I bought a puppy last night who was said to be a full staff from parents who are show dogs.

My husband has previously owned a staff and is a bit 50/50 whether he is actually a staffy.

We bought the pup from a lady who said her son had developed an allergy since having him. She bought him last monday so only had him a week as we took him yesterday. She advertised him as 8 weeks old but when we got there she said his date of birth was valentines day, which only makes him 7 weeks old.

The whole experience since first contact with the person seems a little strange. She also said she had bathed him while she had him too????

Kind of wondering if we have been had and hoping we havent landed ourselves with a giant labrador or something

Any advice would be appreciated.

you could try finding the original seller through the lady you bought him from, that way you could possibly know for sure if both parents are staffies and if they are byb or show dogs or he's a staffy x

Welcome to the forum. Without papers from the dog's breeder/Kennel Club it's impossible to know for sure if he is pure bred. It is also really hard to tell the breed of a puppy, especially at such a young age. That said, we would love to see some pictures!

Hiya and welcome, I agree with Cat, unless a dog is registered you cannot garuntee its a full Staff or a cross.

I would worry that if your post is correct it left its litter mates and mum at 6 weeks, have you had the vet give the pup a once over?

As stated above a photo may help with ID'ing the puppy. It could be that the previous owner just got muddled about dates ???

Try using photobucket its a free account you just upload the image too there and copy the img code. Hope that helps. Michelle

Does he have papers? If not you'll never know. Very cute all the same

If thats it in your avatar then no i would say he is definatly not full staff probabilly is a staffxlabrador but maybe putting up a bigger picture.

I can't see very much from your small photo but I don't think he is full staffy. I think if the lady made the effort to buy a kc reg dog with show parents she would have known the names of the parents and at the very least have his kennel club papers. I think she was spinning you a line to be honest. It is hard to tell so young though. Whatever he is he's awfully cute and i'm sure he'll grow up very handsome. Please post some more pictures
When my dog was a pup and we took him for his vaccination my vet said to us he wasn't a staffy. We were like, yes he is we've seen both parents. He was adamant he wasn't but didn't know what else. When he came in several months later to be microchipped he put staffordshire bull terrier on his description without a mummur not even staffy x. He says what a lovely staffy he is now.

It is hard to tell what they will look like when they are pups. He does look like a mix of some kind, but it is hard to tell with such a small photo.
