Smile puppy gear

Post by micheled Fri Mar 30 2012, 15:18

Hi everyone,

Our puppy Callie is coming home 2 weeks from today--very excited--she'll be 9 weeks. First dog since our family dog when I was a girl (I know, I'm in for a handful!) so I need a little advice.

Our breeder is great, very involved, is making me a list of what to get. I've ordered the crate she recommended already, but I would love any suggestions about what else to have on hand.

Thanks in advance Smile love this forum

I got mine a water bowl which clips on the side of the crate to stop her tipping it over, also get cheap blankets and pillows to use as dog beds because expensive ones might look good but don't last 5 minutes with a puppy!

I'm sure the breeder will advise what food to buy ( ie the one that the pups are currently being fed on, even if you want to change it you'll need to do so gradually)

Oh and lots of newspaper and poo bags and definitely air freshener and cleaning products for all those accidents lol!!

All of the above Smile an anti slip food bowl and some strong chew toys!! Rolo loves his Nylabone it's been great for those niggling teeth. We put a towel in with the litter of pups for an hour before we brought him home so that he still had that comforting smell, helped keep him happy along with his big teddy that he curled up with at night... and he still curls up with it Smile

I got a little soft puppy collar for Bella so that she could get used to it before she was able to go for walks. A blanket over her crate helped her to settle in it and someone suggested to me that a ticking clock can help them to settle as well Smile

Bet you can't wait hopefully it will go so quick for you

Ask the breeder for a toy or a blanket or something that will help her settle for her first couple of nights it will have the smell of her mum and pups

Very exciting times ahead for you then. Plenty of patience and time will be essential. Do you know what feed she is on already?
