Re: my staffy needs a mussle!!!!
Met some women today with her white fluffy thing on lead, Moo just plodded past and the women said "Is your dog alright" I just said under my breathe, no it might eat yours with which she replied "I know that sort of breed".
So yours is on lead, mines off, do you really think she would be off lead if she was a danger?!!? Stupid women!

Stupid woman. Honestly, did it look like your boy was about to eat your children?
What a lovely image!
I had the opposite yesterday, sort of. I was walking Dempsey back from the park & we came towards a little fluff ball & her owner talking to a neighbour. Now, I know the fluff ball & the owner quite well & Dempsey likes the dog (mainly because she's old, non-threatening & takes medication that make her smell like she's in season!). As I got closer, the neighbour said to the fluff ball owner, "You want to pick your dog up, there's one of those nasty breeds! He'll attack her for sure!" The fluff ball owner said "Don't talk rot! That's the sweetest dog in the neighbourhood!"

Re: my staffy needs a mussle!!!!
I know Monty is a different breed, but I've seen comments on the Internet about EBTs can be nasty etc etc. Fortunately, anyone who has taken the time to spot me and Monty on our walks, with or without a dog, they always seem to take the time to comment on how lovely Monty is. I've had a woman stop me as she got out of her car to go into her home, asking me to stop, so she can bring her son out to see Monty, I have a neighbor who's just moved in across the road stop me when we were walking, for a chat about Monty as the family want an EBT, another neighbor I've never seen before who came out on his door to say 'lush dog !' .... the dog gets more attention than me ! But the day someone says something derogatory about my dog while he is out with me, I will have to open the can of emergency whoop-a5s I carry around with me in my pocket !

Re: my staffy needs a mussle!!!!
It's so annoying! At the park on tuesday, a dog zooms up to Violet (who was on lead, having a lie down because she's so lazy) and growls in her face. The man eventually catches up to his dog, and Violet get's excited as she always does when she sees someone, so I say "Violet, nice and calm", and he goes "OH, Violent Violet. You can tell that she needs that muzzle though". I said "It's not a muzzle, it's a head collar that stops her from pulling on her lead" and he replies with "Well I've never heard of that and it looks like a muzzle to me."
I was tempted to say she was more than capable of biting him with it on, but I just laughed and said "Oh well, shows what you know!". Sometimes it would be so easy to get in a full on fight with people. Although, it's not just staffs who are getting it - was talking to a woman who has a labrador, and she was saying it wasn't until she got a the pup that she realised just how nasty people can be about dogs!

Re: my staffy needs a mussle!!!!
For goodness sake. I'm 12 years old for gods sake and and one of my biggest goals is to stop people believing any old rubbish about staffies. Casey has never hurt a fly and I used to walk her all the time. There used to be a boy, a bit older than me in my aunties estate and his nana had a dog(a jack russell cross) and he was fine with dogs. Then when he saw Casey he went to the other side of the path. I tried to reassure him that she was lovely but he just always did it and his mam said, he doesnt like that breed betcause theyre vicious!!!!! I'd trust Casey more than I trust most humans, and whenver I see her she makes me happy!
I feel so passionate about this subject, sorry rant over!!!!!

Re: my staffy needs a mussle!!!!
People make me fume sometimes.
Especailly at the minute as Tilli is training to become an assistance dog for me.
We were in Asda shopping yesterday as part of her training, she didnt sniff anythin not even the boxed mince meat. We had gone round the whole store and had some really nice comments inc 'Ive never seen a staffy as a working dog, nice change'.
We finished the shopping and were stood at the tills Tilli sat down in her bright orange jacket and was being calm and quite when a member of staff came over and said 'whats ur dog in training for??' i told her she was training to be a mental health assistance dog. The women said to me 'You cant bring her in when she is training she has to be qualified'
I explained she has to do it as it is part of her public acess work and is part of her exam. She stormed off in a huff.
I said loudly to my friend ' If she was cute lab puppy in guidedog training would she of said the same???' the lther member of staff who was stood behind me also stormed off too.
All they saw was an SBT not the fact that she is training to be an assistance dog!!!!

My mum was exactly the same when I got Ledger but I guess when all you know of a breed is how the media portray this 'vicious mini pitbull spawn of satan type' I guess its hard to have any other opinion than that which you believe you know. Still mum was won over on the first meeting and even more so as he has been noticeably nursing her while she has been laid up with a bad back since November

That's absoluty terrible claire, i would not be going back to that shop then, (or maybe i would just to wind them up > )
Re: my staffy needs a mussle!!!!
Claire thats terrible. Staffies are becoming more popular as assistance dogs and so they should! An innocent Staffie who just wants to please their owner is judged. Thats terrible.

Re: my staffy needs a mussle!!!!
Yeah it's sad. Had a few looks and one comment and I have only had Troy a week. It is surprising though how many good comments I get from people, but these are usually people who have had the breed before.
Goes against the stereo type of only chav's owning them (round here anyway) because most of the people that comment and are familiar with the breed are middle-aged women.

the crying shame is these people have no idea how human loving SBT's are. human ignorance really grates me up the wrong way sometimes. SBT's are perfect for assistance dogs, loving, loyal and brave... if only this stupid stigma could be shaken off. sadley its mostly down to the media and the shamlessley inaccurate stories they peddel. I posted on the sun site a while back about the inaccuracy of one of there stories about SBT's...lasted about 5 mins before it was pulled and not one swear word in it... go figure

That's awful stupid woman! I get that all the time whenever I take mine out I had a woman the other week who had a bijon frise her and her husband were walking it fine untill she spotted my dogs chased after hers n picked it up she walked past me n gave me the most horrible look whilst her husband was walking a few steps behind her looked at me rolled his eyes n gave my dogs lots of attention made me laugh.

Re: my staffy needs a mussle!!!!
I have owned Rottys and now a Staffy and have had the same comments about both breeds, however both breeds have almost the same temperament. I just say it not the dog you have to worry about and give them a glare. Seems to shut them up.
TBH I don't give a toss what people think, as in most cases I see its normally their kids or dogs that are unruly. I bring my dogs up to be considerate, affectionate and obedient.

I might get a t-shirt printed for when I walk my dog "I have a staffordshire bull terrier, he is going to get you, because he is a killer dog".
Then on the back " Jog on I lied just like the media, and just like you narrow minded fool".

Ignorant bint....and I'm not usually rude
I have given up trying to convince people when out on walks, not because I can't be bothered but because you can't.
The media perpetuate the myth that staffies are aggressive, either good owners decide to get a different breed , or lovely people like you rise above it but even then media ignore all the lovely staffies out there. Instead, they focus on the one idiot who got a staffy for the wrong reason, trained him/her to be aggressive and one incident occurs - the media jump on it.

Re: my staffy needs a mussle!!!!
i often get people crossing the road or pinning themselves to the wall as i pass with Alfie but to be honest i just smile and walk on. The flip side of this though was the other day when a lady with a disabled young man in a wheelchair stopped me and asked if he could stroke the dog. She didn't even bat an eyelid at the fact he was a staffie she just said "oh he loves dogs" Alfie even jumped up so his front paws where on the side of the chair so that he could reach him , it was a lovely.

Only had 2 -ve comment about Heston so far (we live right on the edge of Exmoor and everyone else has gun/farm dogs, so thats pretty good going). Funnily enough all the old ladies in the village seem to love him! Just had a comment regarding his harness "oh he's wearing a harness, that must mean he must be vicious" said as Heston is peeping out from under our table at the local pub sleepily; and also "are you getting him used to wearing a muzzle out?" said by a daft tweed wearing bat. It makes you want to give them a good smack, but James is really good and gets all Staffi educational on them!!!
