Hi All,
Long time reader first time poster. I have a 5 1/2 month staffy female who by all accounts is doing everything she should by what I’ve read on your wonderful forum. after a couple of Bull Terriers she's the first pup we've had for over 20 years. I have two sons who both have Staffy's so it's kinda rubbed offf.
Anyway, as I said she seems to be doing everything she should, she's well behaved and obedient, doesn't bark unless forced to and is the most family friendly dog i've had, however she has some frustrating eating habits in that she doesn't like red meat and the only biscuits she'll eat are cat biscuits. She's never had tinned food nor will she and used to eat red meat but now she'll leave it. I thought it might be a teething thing as she has the coppery breath and small amount of bleeding, but she loves chicken necks and still eats bones (yes it's red meat). I've tried different makes of fresh meat loaf and she turn them all down. My neighbour is a butcher and even made her her own mix.....no good.
She's almost 11kgs so weight isn't an issue and we walk/run about 15kms a week with little effort. She loves to walk and run. Am I concerned about nothing or is just a phase. I'm more frustrated than anything as I want to give her a good diet. Is therte something I can add maybe to make it more appealing to her. She also loves to bury all her bones and sometimes her chicken necks. She even tried to bury one in a bean bag.
Thanks

If she is refusing to eat try leaving the food down for 10-15 minutes and than picking it back up. A dog won't let themselves starve so she should start eating normally in less than a week. There are additives you could try to make the food more desireable but it is all dependant on how you are wanting to feed.

Hi and welcome. I would watch the cat food consumption though. The formulation is not suited to dogs.

Thanks all for the warm welcome. The red meat I'm feeding Bella is fresh and i have tried a few. She will sometimes eat it over the course of the night. I'm not to worried as she is gaining weight and looks healthy. I think she just prefers chicken. The bones are off setting the red meat at the moment.
Thanks all

Well just a quick update. I've had a win i think. I have found a dry food she likes. Funny thing is the food came with money back guarantee. The other thing is i have been able to get her to eat the red meet by mixing a small amount of tuna in spring water with it. Is this bad?

Nooo, but.....
If you're feeding dry & raw, don't mix them together! Feed raw in the morning & dry at night; they have different digestion times & mixing them could upset her stomach.
There's no problem giving her a little tuna, but even better would be sardines either in spring water, olive oil or tomato sauce! Not more than 2 or 3 times a week, though.
