how do i introducde my staffy pup to my cat?
im trying to read up about how to introduce scarlet to our cat Bella (who is 7 months). But nothing i read has been that useful so why not ask the people who have experience with staffs
We had our lab when we got Bella and she didn't mind him at all but my lab did!
I know since i will being getting scarlet at 6 weeks it will be easier because Bella doesn't mind dogs and i can train scarlet to get used to her.
So whats the best way for Bella and Scarlet to meet when she comes home? baring in mind the cat only come out when she wants food and at night lol!

Hi Laura, when i had my first staff Rocky at 8wks i had a 12mth old cat called Bobby and i thought oh my god and being pups they're inquisitive and he approached bobby and the cat lashed out with his is paw.
Well i sat on the floor and put bobby between my legs facing outwardly and wrapped my arms around his legs in front of me to make sure bobby was secure...Rocky approached again and licked bobby's nose and i let that happen several times and let bobby go...i watched for a few hours and bingo they got on great after that.
I know it sounds abit soft but bella being young and scarlet being young..try it, it may work out and i bet you can't wait to have her

Very exciting! I would also recommend keeping the pup on a lead in case a chase begins. It is a good idea to keep the pup from chasing the cat or you may have a big problem a few months later when scarlet doesn't really know her strenth + prey drive. Better not to risk it. Also, clip the cat's nails before you bring her home as claws have been known to result in trips to the vet for scratched/cut eyes. It really probably won't be as hard to do as it is to describe! Wish I had my younger dog from a pup and maybe it would have worked with my cat. Best to you and the last week is the hardest to wait!

Some good advise there Ben. Dont feel bad about your cat. Tyson still has a chase every now and then with the cats and he knows them from 8 weeks. Fortunately, he stops immediately when I give the leave command. It just takes a lot of hard work. I also make sure that the cats have a save haven away from Ty and escape routes open in all rooms.

You have youth on your side .... with them both being so young my guess is you shouldn't have too much trouble.
When I brought my cat home about three or so months ago Frank (staffy) was already 3 years old. He's so good with other animals I was pretty sure he would be okay. But I brought the cat into the house in a pet carrier - placed it on the floor and let Frank come up and investigate it. Of course being mindful the cat was not too freaked out.
Frank smelled the crate (luckily the cat wasn't phased and just lay there inside) I think the cat picked up on the dogs vibes and was okay. Frank then lay down in front of the crate and the cat stuck his paw out to touch him. About 30 minutes later I opened the crate and the two met face to face and have been inseparable ever since.
You'll be able to read them both and how they are feeling - go with your gut, you'll be surprised you'll just know how to handle it.
I'll attach their first meeting pics in carrier and then a later one.
The cat pulling his eye - he's not sure what to do
