Will a dog and a bitch fight? Empty Will a dog and a bitch fight?

Post by SarahS4 Mon Jan 09 2012, 10:26

Hi I have an 8 yr old Cavalier King Charles (dog) and a 11 week old Staffy (bitch) at present they sleep togther and get on fine. They play fight but nothing over the top.
I am worried that I should maybe split them up when I am out because as the staffy gets older she will be very powerful compared to my Cavalier.
Can anyone please advise?

I agree with above!! Smile .. i have even seen staffys so gentle with other animals such as rabbit's and guinea pig's etc .. just because she will grow bigger than your other dog dont mean she will bully him Smile .. They know when to be careful and when not to be so rough etc my vinnie was so careful around skye when she was tiny after a few weeks of getting used to each other.

Ii would crate when your not home just because the slightest thing may setnof a tiff i.e a toy etc just to be safe chances are it wouldnt happen but atleast your preventing the risk of it ever happening Smile my two are always together apart from her been in a crate when im out and at night for bed Smile

My two are seperated when we are not about, and crated at night.

I personally would never leave leave a stafford alone unsupervised with another dog,if a fight did break it could have dire consquences.

I know of many owners who have left a stafford together with another dog and returned home to seriously injured and in one case a dead dog.

My friend's two staff bitches were always left alone together - they grew up together & were best friends. then one day she came home from shopping to find a blood bath. Something had triggered a tiff & all hell had broken loose. Both dogs were almost comatose & one sadly died.

I'm not saying that this will happen with all dogs, but I wouldn't be prepared to take a chance. Night time's not normally a problem, but I'd seperate them if you're out during the day.

It doesn't have to be a crate (although I wouldn't be without one now), just seperate rooms would be fine.

We have a door between the upstairs and down and will probably allow one to be up and the other down when we are confident Frosty won't get into too much trouble when we are out. For now we crate him and Monte has the run of the place but chooses to lay right in front of the crate door when we are out as he won't leave the crate side if Frosty is in it, even to say hi when we get home!

I have a dog and a bitch and they get on like a house on fire cuddle up on the sofa together, play together, eat together out of eat other bowls, share bowls etc but we always seperate them when we go out and at bed time Im not prepared to take the risk even tho they get on so well I would hate for a disagreement erupt and the worst come to the worst.
