A WAR IS ON!!

Murphys has got 2 the stage when he is in the house he can now jump onto the seat and the sofa! No thanks 2 my eldest daugther for she wud have him up on the seats when we were gone giving a helping hand of course, but i dont mind i have no problem with it!But omg the wife goes totally of her head she can not have it! I mean mental me and my daughters get it in the neck! She has even threaten 2 keep out of the house! But their no way that will happen, so me & my girls r at a stand off with the wife and there is no backing down from either side! Any suggestions 2 defuse potential world war 3!

Why does your wife not want him on the sofa? Is it because of dog hair or something like that? If so, you could suggest putting a cover on one of the seats and train Murphy to understand that's the only seat he's allowed on. If she simply just does not want him on there, well, all I can say is good luck!

We use covers on all of our furniture since Suki has free run of the house. I think you will have to sit dow with the OH and have a talk about the rules for the dog. It's important that everyone in the house enforce the same rules or the dog will get confused.

You could always try to bribe the OH to get your way

My wife just wudn't b that big into dogs! Dont get me wrong she luv's him 2 peices! Murphy wud b the 1st dog that she wud have let into house but draws the line when it comes 2 the furniture! I think we will have 2 meet somewhere in the middle! But when hes sitting looking up at u with those sad eyes u can only but invite him up 2 give him big hugs! I will try giving the wife big hugs & kiss's 2 then we will c if i can get round her

I'm sure that he will grow on her. My wife was actually scared of dogs when I first met her and now she is Suki's primary handler

like suggested above train to sit or lie on a cover such as blanket or throw and also try getting the vac out yourself now and again and vaccing the hairs off and cleaning the muck off cos trust me it gets manky and hairy and if your house is like mine it will never get done unless i do it myself

My advice do as she says! get little murphy a nice doggy bed and put it by the side of the sofa so you can reach him for a snuggle whenever you want.
And I agree you should sit down and have a chat bout the do's and don'ts of the dog. It has to be a bit of give and take on both sides once that is agreed on no more world war 3. It worked for me.
Even though i sometimes sneak little Cali on the sofa when my Bloke isn't around, just for a quick snuggle.

So I bet your missus would totally freak when she pulls back the bed covers to find the dog under the duvet (lying on the bed just isn't enough for Tilly these days, as its oh so cold in Winter ), she starts at the top then worms her way down and I normally get woken by 3 as she's licking my toes.
And never ever let her on the couch............without a nice snuggy blanket to wrap her up in as otherwise it would be cruel.
Sorry mate , she's one of the family so apart from sitting at the table to eat dinner with us, mi casa zu casa (is that right ??)

Hi, just my 2 cents worth. With such a clever dog (staffy) I would say that we need to draw the line as to where and what the dog can do . In your case, its important to keep the peace in the household. Yeah, I know it will be hard getting the dog to not use the furniture, but being strict and consistent with the dog, you would eventually let him know what is the expected behaviour. Do not mean to offend. I have a friend who allows his dog to laze on the furniture, so much so that it is full of white fur and I refuse to sit on it whenever Im at hi place.

We have a few furniture pieces we allow the dogs on but others are off limits. I say, if the wife has made the jump this far, give her time. I sit on the floor with pillows in front of the fire all the time anyway, perhaps that is a good place to give Murphey a cuddle. They are swell cuddlers, so if your wife gets in on the action, soon she may consider compromising with one seat or sofa.

Olly goes where he wants ,when we brought him home from kennnels we got him a new bed he looked at it jumped on our bed and has stayed on it ever since ,mind all our dogs have done the same !

I really like Julie's suggestion - get the vacuum out and keep the lounge clean, that might help? We have covers on our lounge - it's leather and we don't want scratches all over it! I'm a bit of a softie when it comes to puppy snuggles, hubby would probably prefer the dog not jump on lounge but I catch him snuggling with her all the time

If your oh won't budge, even with covers on the furniture, I'd give in & not let her up. There have to be rules in the house for dogs & if one person says yes, and another says no, then the dog will be terribly confused - it would be very unfair on the dog.
