Hello

Post by john/pauline law on Tue 20 Oct 2009, 13:04

Hi, we have just got a staffie puppy, she's called Sadie. She is 9 weeks old now and she is very lively and cute! She won't stop chewing people and if anyone has any advice about how to stop her we would be grateful. We have tried telling her NO but just makes her more excited usually! Other than that she is fine,

Thankyou

John and Pauline

Re: Hello

Post by Pablo the little red fox on Tue 20 Oct 2009, 15:40

Hi Guys, from another new member

Unfortunately the biting thing will last for while yet. Max is 12 weeks and its getting better. Remember your dog has spent most of his life in a pack of pups where biting each other is the norm. A consistant NO, and putting him out of the room and ignoring him for 5 mins, he will eventually get the message.

Enjoy your new pup ( and the biting )

Welcome from Jessie, Tyson & I.

I did the "yelp" when mine bit & stopped play. But it is a norm puppy thing for them to do at such a young age. Just be consistant in whatever you decide & Sadie will understand in time what the rules are.

How cute is she!

Hi and welcome!! Smile In my experience it takes around 3-4 months for the biting and chewing to slow down, just be consistent with maybe sharp OW! NO! when it happens, seems like its not doing any good but stick with it, I did and one day it practically stopped! Its all good fun.....x

Re: Hello

Post by Dieselsmummy on Sat 24 Oct 2009, 14:19

Hi and welcome to you and Sadie, when Diesel was at the mouthing/nipping stage we were advised to give him something that he could chew. So at the time he had a small brown and black soft cuddly toy dog, only problem is at 4 he still runs to get his toy dog in his mouth when anyone visits! Its quite cute tho'
Oh and we had to replace our kitchen due to the chewing! but he only went through a very small but very expensive stage of chewing- despite having loads of chew toys! But persevere it does stop.

Hi eveyone
Good day for us & Sadie tomorrow as she is having her final injection and we will be able to take her out for walkies. cant wait . This might use some of excess energy and want to go to sleep sometimes. But still enjoying having fun with her around the house.
