Sleepy Scooby

Post by Guest Tue Oct 04 2011, 03:17

My dad's cocker spaniel, Scooby, was hit by a car and had to be PTS tonight. She was 7 or 8 years old. She had 3 litters of 7 puppies each before she was spayed at 4. She loved to hunt lizards and swim. She was a great little dog, really beautiful. Visiting my dad in Florida is not going to be the same without her.

Her first litter (I was there helping her birth the puppies):

Her second litter (I was there for the birth of this litter as well):

All three litters (I arrived 1 or 2 weeks after her last litter was born):

She meant the world to my dad and I don't know what he's going to do without her. When he called me tonight he was on his way to the E-Vet. He was crying just as hard as when he called me the night his father (my grandfather) died. I hate hearing him cry. It's terrible. He said her X-Rays just showed an absolutely crushed back end and she was in bad shape. He hugged her and kissed her, but couldn't stay in the room when they did it. He loved her, and she loved him. I invited him to come up to visit me this weekend, so he may do that. He's had a really rough year.

Rest Well and Happy Hunting, Scooby.

I am so sad for you and your Dad. When I lost my previous Staffie who was PTS in my arms after being with me for 16 years, someone sent me this and I thought I wouls share it with you:

The Rainbow Bridge (Legend has it)

Is just this side of Heaven.
When an animal dies that has been particularly close to a person here on this world,
that animals soul goes to the Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills, ponds and streams for all of our special friends
so that they can run and play together,
and lots of places where they can find food and be warm and comfortable.
All the animals who have been ill and old are restored to health and vigour,
and those who were hurt or maimed
are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them
in our dreams of days gone by.
They are happy and content, except for one small thing -
they each miss someone very special to them who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together joyfully, but always the day comes
when one will suddenly stop and look into the distance.
His bright eyes are intent, his whole body quivers with excitement and anticipation.
He begins to run from the group, his feet flying over the green grass,
his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet,
you embrace in joyous reunion, never to be parted again.
The happy kisses rain upon your face, your hands again caress the beloved head,
and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet,
so long gone from your life, but never absent from your heart.

...then you cross the Rainbow Bridge - together

Thank you all for your kind words at this difficult time. My dad is doing a lot better today. He only cried twice during our phone conversation today. He is sounding excited about visiting, so I think it will be good for him. Being around Saxon should help. Maybe he can take Saxon squirrel hunting. Even though he isn't really a cat person, I think Bowie and Ziggy will help, too, because they love to cuddle people when they are sad.

I'm not much of a cat person so I don't know how they behave, but I'm sure Saxon will sense your dad's sadness and follow him around like a shadow. Hope the cats snuggle up to him too. Will be nice for you to be able to give your dad a big hug in person as well. Smile
