Would anyone ever consider it?
I'v been looking into some imformation about Doner Dogs, where dogs can donate their blood to other dogs in need just like us humans do.
also to be an organ doner when your dog passes, so other dogs got a chance etc anything from blood to bone.
I saw it once a couple of years ago a very uncared for dog had severe anemia from too many flea's she had to have a blood transfusion and they brought in a doner dog and she made a full recovery and wouldn't of, if it wasn't from the transfusion.
A more recent one with a full body doner after her dog passed some bone was taken from the dog and placed into another dog that was at risk of losing it leg from a tumer eating away the bone.
Just like us getting kidney/heart/liver transplants from doners.
just wondering if anyone here would ever consider doing something like this? or have you already?

I'd love to, but you need a dog that's prepared to sit quietly for around 20 minutes! No chance with Dempsey, I'm afraid.
My vets have a blood donor surgery once a month & I did enquire, but he just isn't suitable. I must admit I don't know if they have an organ donor scheme for pets, I might ask next time I'm there.

I didn't know this existed for dogs but it makes sense. I'm an organ donor but with all my trips I can't give blood very often. Suki would never allow it though the one time she needed her blood drawn it was a 30 or 40 minute ordeal simply for two little vials.

I think i would be able to do it with Taz but not the girls, one time i had to pull a splinter out of Cassie she turned tasty and acted like i was tearing her foot off so she wanted to tear my hand off lol, Blondy is not to good with discomfort either. My vets don't do it though, I'v only heared of it being so popular in England.

We got a telephone call once one of my boys pups had a nasty accident and needed a transfusion so we were on standbye to shoot off with him for donation but according to there vets unlike us theres not many different types of blood for a dog so one of the vets stepped in and used his dog . But we have seamen stored for the future and ive heard that eggs can be taken too so yes definatly I would if I could blood that is

It seems to be getting more popular, a few years ago it was almost unheard of!

Re: Would anyone ever consider it?
Before Harry I had two staffies a dog and a bitch, brother and sister, and my bitch needed a blood transfusion as she had internal bleeding. The dog would have been the perfect donor but he was a bit of a wuss where vets were concerned and would never have sat still for it. The Vet provided bags of an alternative blood and my girl led in her basket at home in our kitchen quite calmly for the transfusion and the bag was hung on the back of the kitchen chair.
If I remember correctly, she needed 4 bags and it cost over £200 for the bags without vet fees etc. but cost would never have come in to it.

Wow I didnt know it was possible! Skibadee had blood taken once for her L2 and HC tests and she was actually very good, perhaps I will enquire to see if she could maybe give blood. Anything to help a dog which might not otherwise make it.

I looked into it in the US, but the dog has to be at least 50 pounds (22.7kg) and Saxon is only 39 pounds (17kg).
