Animal Clothing Empty Animal Clothing

Post by Maxien78 Fri Sep 09 2011, 12:54

I don't know if this topic has been done already and to be honest i'm having a lazy day so didn;t do a search (ooopsy, sorry Tongues )

Anyway. I have just seen this http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/3804084/Walkies-with-dinosaurs.html

....and I didn't know what to think of it.

I am all for having a little fun with our dogs, but dressing them up all the time is a big no no for me. Some of those costumes do not look comfortable and look as though they would restrict the dogs movement, not to mention the heat, and I really don't like seeing dogs that have been bejeweled and have huge diamante chains hanging off them etc. It really can't be fun for the dog.

A nice little winter coat for those horrible really cold winters we have been having is ok, and maybe a teeny tiny dress up hat for halloween and christmas, but thats about it for me.

But this is just my opinion Smile

What do you guys think? are you a fan of dressing up your dog?

I agree with you, its fine to dress a dog up with a little hat or something on xmas or other special occasions (even though mine won't keep it on for more than 30 seconds) but to 'bling up' a dog or reguarly dress it up for long periods doesn't seem fair and I'm sure all the other dogs in the park must laugh at the poor thing Laughing
But then again I think the same about people that let their 4 year olds wear heels and mini skirts. If you want some thing to dress up get a doll, not a pet or a kid!

A similar thread im sure has been started before. For me a really dont think its nessesery for doggy clothes at all. I certainly would never put mine in things like in the link but 2 be honest would just never put them in hoodies or whatever anyway. I have nothing against coats for young pups or elderly or sick dogs but think a healthy average adult should be fine in our climate..... Big Grin

i agree these costumes are silly some people just have nothing better to do with their dog. i am all for a coat or a jumper in the cold weather but not dressing them up in silly costumes or treating them like kids with dresses etc. like you say the odd party hat or santa hat for a posy pic at christams or other holidays and birthdays but this is just stupid

Nah it's not my kind of thing either. I agree with very young, old or sick animals wearing something that will aid them to keep warm. But that's as far as I would ever go. I too don't like the idea of dressing children up either, let children be children and dogs be dogs. The most I have put on a dog is a santa hat each year on my sheepdog when he was alive. But even then, he only had it on for me to take a picture and then it was off again!

As long as it isn't an everyday thing its just a bit of fun at the end of the day, come on how many people do you walk past with your staffy and their like avoid like the plague what if you put a funny little outfit or a silly little wig on them how many people walk past taking another look either laughing or wanting to fuss the dog?
I think if we seen more of these funny/childish little outfits on our dogs or more of our breed on the television like that doggy dentures advert one it change alot of views.
I'd rather put a dinosaur outfit/pink coat on my lot than a studded collar any day.
Thats the image people are attracted too at the end of the day, draw attention in a possitive/funny way.

Violet wears a jumper when it's chilly out, and she has a raincoat too for if it's wet, and she loves getting it put on, and hates getting it taken off (compared to her harness which she hates going on and loves coming off!), so whilst it can be a bit embarrassing having a dog in a jumper, she has a baldy belly and shivers when it's cold, so I'd rather dress her up.

However, as the Hallowe'en Queen of the West of Scotland (self titled), I'm trying to think of a costume she could wear that is only a decorated t shirt. Maybe I'll send her out as one of the dogs dressed as lobsters from a book I illustrated a while back...
