Stupid un-educated people!
im deciding to vent today! haha .. i havn't posted a post venting because ive never usually had a problem up my area .. however today i was walking vinnie down to meet my sister at my dad's house (takes roughly 45mins to walk).
Vinnie is the softest most lovable boy ive ever known! .. today on the walk he tried to say hello to 2 cocker spaniels, a westie and another cocker spaniel.
The owner of the 2 cocker's wasnt paying any attention and he was playing with the one of the cocker's and then the owner suddenly looked and went "oooohhhh!!!" and pulled her dogs away! .. to which i said "its alright luv he aint a savage, if he wanted to hurt your dog he'd of done it while you was busy not paying attention!!" and i carried on.
Vinnie went over to another cocker when crossing the road and the owner was like pulling her dog back with a smile on her face (nervous smile) so i said "hes fine! he wont hurt her!" and called vinnie away.
when he met the westie they sniffed and said hello and the owner looked at vinnie and pulled his dog closer!... to which my sister said, his not aggressive yano'! (we'd got fed up with these idiots!)
ARE THESE PEOPLE IDIOTS!!! .. my dog was face to face with them doing no harm and just greeting them and AFTER decided ohhh! no best remove my dog! .. i felt so sorry for my vinnie he kept looking back at me like
what have i done!.
We then come home, got into my area he had people stroking him, fussing him, little kids going "ahhh doggy!!" etc etc, he got in and ran straight to skye for a good play!.
(i couldnt take skye as it would of knackerd her little legs out, its all up hill and a pretty long walk! they both just went up the fields together tho'!
)

Thankyou
.Usually i do ignore any funny lucks or whisper's .. but i wasnt in the best of moods from when i woke up today + the heat lol so i gave them all a comment haha!
Re: Stupid un-educated people!
Maybe it is their dogs they are worried about. I find that half the dog owners have little or no control over their dogs behavior.

They were fine when they were licking each other etc lol .. that i would completely understand, i always observe a dogs body language before allowing mine to continue
Re: Stupid un-educated people!
There are alot of bad handlers out there. It's normally the little yappy dogs that are dog aggressive because they are not trained. Try to not let it get to you too much.

Re: Stupid un-educated people!
I can understand your frustration.I have had similar things happen to me and it puzzles me.I usually end up making direct comments about there negative reactions and try to create some type of understanding that the breed is not at fault but the bad owners are. There is no such thing as a bad dog only bad owners. When I do this most people will agree with me and it will settle there nervs a bit.It is our responsibility as owners of a breed with a troubled reputation to educate those who do not understand them. Our well behaved dogs can help change this reputation through our leadership and our willingness to educate the ignorant.

yea, I noticed that myself.
if i see that people are not sure about their dogs meeting Mambo, even if I'm sure my boy is OK I will not bother with hellos (tho I'd rather Mambo to socialise as much as possible) and take Mambo away.
ignore them really, it is sad and annoying but at least your boy proves that he's ok and maybe next time they will act differently once they're reassured!

Re: Stupid un-educated people!
some people are just idiots aren't they..
Most people are good with staffys here but I did have someone pick their dog up and cross the road when I was walking Jethro last year.. I mean he was on a lead and he is all grey and was waddling along ... hardly a viscious out of control looney dog !! I just glared at the person from across the road, as their fluffy furry mutt went berserk in their arms trying to get over and attack Jethro !

Re: Stupid un-educated people!
I had a similar situation today. Was over the field with Lola and a cockerspaniel came running over to her, the owner didn't have any control over her dog and the dog was ignoring her. she shouted to me could I put my dog on her lead, I asked why and she said because her dog had been attacked by a staffie, to which pointed out to her that it was her dog that was out of control and not mine and that I wouldn't put lola on the lead as she wasn't even doing anything.
I had a few words with her about generalising staffies, but she wasn't interested. I just walked off and ignored the stupid women. Some people are just so thick.

Re: Stupid un-educated people!
tell me about it!!! .. i have had endless convo's with people about how staffies are given the bad name because of the majority of staffys owned by clueless owners who would either prefer to fight there dogs or dont have a clue on how to train a budgie let alone a dog! .. some people will listen and agree, some people will just shrug there shoulders.

I get the exact same look with Harv as he seems to think it's fault and he's done something wrong

But you do have to ignore them and don't let them bother you

Re: Stupid un-educated people!
Ive decided not to get wound up theres a few people in the local park and they do the same run and put there dogs on the lead we tell them he is fine and they have even seen him playing with other dogs and never once has there been a problem there excuse is that it is there dog that is snappy yet you see them with other dog owners who dont have staffys letting them run round playing makes me laugh

Re: Stupid un-educated people!
I get those looks and snide remarks everyday when i walk buster.i find myself crossing the road and standing on the road so often because people panic when they see my dog.he doesnt pull on his lead so i dont understand why people are scared.people often pull there dog/s away when buster just wants to introduce himself purely because hes a staffy and i really think someone needs to set the record straight because the amount of people who tell me busters classed as a dangerous dog is unbelievable x
