50 year old Male from North Manchester

Might seem a little strange joining this group as i don't currently have any pets.

I did have the pleasure of owning 2 Staffies who i miss very much, they gave me so much pleasure for 17 years.
the loss i felt when they was gone put me off owning another as i get too attached.

Its been 4 years without my dogs now, and i keep getting the temptation to get another.
it seems everywhere i go i see Staffies, other dogs don't seem to do it for me, it has to be a staffy
They have a personality all of there own.

This week a friend gave me the address of a guy who's dog had just had pups, they are Blue Staffs.
i plucked up the courage and went and enquired, he wanted £1200 each for them!
Admittedly its been a long time since i bought my last 2 but i just cant afford that... deffo not 2 again either.

So for now, i thought i would join this group and read about yours

I'm so sorry about the loss of your two fur friends, they leave such a huge gap, don't they?

I'm not surprised about the £1200. People still seem to think that blue us a rare colour, which of course it isn't. Over half of all Stafford pups registered with the Kennel Club last year were blue - hardly rare.

I bet those pups' parents hadn't been tested for the various inherited problems in the breed today, either. It's the old £ sign - breed blue to blue so you can guarantee blue pups & then charge twice the going rate of well bred pups!

In my opinion you did right not to pay it!

You don’t have to own a Staffy to join in here so you are most welcome. I think all dogs leave a huge hole in your life when they pass on but none more than Staffies, they really do have a particular character.

£1200 is way too much to pay, especially if they weren’t KC registered from a showing line. You did the right thing to walk away but you must have been sorely tempted.

Just a thought 5hough, have you considered a rescue ? We did and haven’t looked back.

I have been looking at rescue and buying pups.
i think ill have to do some saving for the latter, i started out thinking i would get a pup for about £200, i now realised that's very unlikely.
Rescue might be a better option.

I think pups sell, on average, for about £500/750.

So sorry to hear of your loss.

I completely agree that's an insane amount of money for a pup. Rescue dogs are so much cheaper and you sound like the owner a rescue would love to have with your experience. Hope you find a new best friend soon x

Definitely consider a rescue. As you have (been) owned (by) Staffies before you know what they are like.

Hi Again everyone... just thought i would add my my post.
I plucked up the courage to get attached again

Ive paid a deposit on a male Staffy Pup which i cant pick up until 27th Feb as hes still too young

I am about to go shopping to get the things he will need on his first days
i also need to think of a name!
Axel, Luther and Billy are a few im working with at the moment

So glad you have opened your heart to another worthy baby, can't wait to see him

Oh that is good news! I can't wait to see pics.

I like Luther best of those three, it's a bit more unusual.
