Strange lump?

Post by Ti Amo Edinburgh on Sun Jul 03, 2011 9:16 pm

Just back in from a short walk.

Noticed a fairly red and raised area, in the inside of a rear leg.

Maybe about the size of a 5p. Looks 'fresh', if that makes sense.

Obviously going to get it checked out, but anyone else had anything like that?

It sounds like either an allergic reaction to something (cut grass?) or a scrape.

I'd put some Sudocrem on it and give half a Piriton tablet. If that doesn't do the trick within 24 hours, get it checked out.

He's licked the Sudocrem off, but has eaten the tablet.

Most dogs don't like Sudocrem!

It's a tumour Sad

Went to see vet today, she said she is '99% sure that it is benign', however she did recommend it be removed, which it is, on Wed.

I won't know for sure that it is benign, until about Tue or Wed of next week.

Oh my, poor you, at least they think its benign. I have the same thing atm, moo has a lump on her ear and the vets also said it was benign, but its been over 4 weeks and its still there, so I have to go back. I didn't comment cause I didn't want to worry you, but all I can say is that aparently its quite commen in younger dogs. Still its a massive shock you. Keep us updated and here's praying that it is Xxx massive hugs to you all.

Had this with Chloe a while ago she had a small lump, looked like a spot.. They booked her for op said it may be skin cancer....

She had it checked after removal and it was benign, I think I have a pic of it still

Thats such a shame that he has to have a op but it will probabilly be such a simple one he won't even notice.
It was caught quickly and he is so young/fit and healthy so hopefully all will be well, let us know how it goes yeah

Thanks everyone.

I don't think I can get this out of my head, until it is all done and dusted, it will be next week before I know it is benign for sure.

I lost a dog through cancer, v suddenly, a few years ago, and that was heartbreaking, however, in that example the vets could not operate, as it was inside his stomach and was large, and had branched out.

I was meant to go away on Fri, until Tue, first break in three years.

But I have cancelled that now, of course.

Oh, poor you, you must be so worried. The thing is, though, that if it is benign then even if it isn't removed it won't affect her health. Although it could get bigger and be a nuisance.

Good like for Wednesday, let's hope ther's no problem.

She did mention that, the vet, that he could potentially knock it, and injure it.

The op part I can deal with.

It's the 1% of doubt that concerns me.

He had his op today.

They have removed lump/tumour, and still feel confident that it is nothing sinister.

I will get the full results, by the end of the week, Mon or Tue, at the latest.

A few stitches, bit sleepy with the anasthetic.

They have given me one of those plastic collars, not had it on him yet, as he has only tried to lick area twice, and both times took a 'no'.

Probably should really put it on him while I am asleep, lest he does gnaw at them, I just hate using them, and I KNOW he ain't gonna appreicate it.

If he is leaving the sitches I wouldn't upset him, he'll be so drowsey after the op so should sleep right through, see how he is tomorrow. I don't know what these wounds look like but mine left her stitches after her 'spay' op alone xx

Yeah, I was pondering that.

The worse one I had, was when I had a Bull Terrier with an aural hematoma(sp?).

He had the bucket thing - and due to it being summer, and the area that was affected, it stank! Rolling Eyes

It's just horrible, has been since I saw it.

It's like that way when you break up with someone, go to sleep, wake up in the morning okay for two mins, then it comes back into your thoughts...

If that makes sense.

I am more relaxed about it, than I was. Smile

They did mention trying out some steroid cream, but, to be honest, I think I have done the right thing having it removed, as the cream may have done nothing, it would be a week or so later, and the issue would most likely still be an issue.
