Mites and skin condition Empty Mites and skin condition

Post by Rocco's mum Fri Apr 08 2016, 08:14

I took Rocco to the vets last week as he had some hair loss and was stratching. I thought he had a food allergy but tests showed he had Demodectic mites. The vet prescribed Advocate and Microbex shampoo. I started his treatment last Thursday and most areas of his skin have improved except for his armpits where he's scratched quite badly.

Does anyone know if this is to be expected with Demodectic mites or is it something more? I'm going to bath him again later as it needs to be done twice weekly. I was wondering if there's anything else I can apply to stop the itching? He's only 6 months old Sad

Oh poor Rocco, I don't know much about mites but if Katy has scratched herself I put Savlon on to heal it. Works every time to stop her itching, good luck with his treatment Mites and skin condition 3198918699

you could try rubbing in some coconut oil - it shouldn't clash with the treatment he's getting.

Poor wee Rocco! Una was the same when she first joined us, she was around 6 months old too. She didn't do as much scratching but the hair loss had given her a couple of bald patches and although she was given the all clear after about 6 weeks of treatment, her bald patches are taking a while to grow back.

The armpit is such an awkward place too, as when he's moving he'll be most likely rubbing against the scratch. Hope Rocco feels better soon!

Thanks for the replies. I googled if Savlon is safe and some people were saying its toxic if licked and Sudocrem is better. I've been putting on Sudocrem and noticed an improvement, also he is scratching less.

sudocrem can also be bad if licked off, as it contains zinc!

I only use savlon when its in an area they cant reach & Katy certainly cant lick her armpits but if it worries you try coconut oil or T-tree cream Big Grin
