New flea treatment Empty New flea treatment

Has anyone tried Bravecto yet? It's a tablet that lasts for 3 months and it treats ticks as well as fleas. If it's used with Milbemax your dog is covered for worms, fleas and tics, which then eliminates the need for spot-ons, which I'm not keen on.

I have always used advocate on Katy without any problems, until last year when the vets said to try Bravecto & Milbemax. I must say she reacted badly to them & was really off colour & sick after each treatment Surprised I will be going back to using advocate this year!!!

If there are no fleas, there is no need to treat. They don't prevent fleas.

I'm just using Milbemax at the moment, with Advocate in the summer. Not had any adverse reactions to either, so perhaps I'll just stay with them.

We use Advocate for Misty too. She was on another flea treatment (can't remember the name) but it didn't treat heartworm and advocate does this too. Does Bravecto cover heartworm too?

I don't believe it to be honest. If they get them they get them.

New flea treatment Empty Re: New flea treatment

Post by LizP on Fri Feb 26 2016, 08:35

I think the do work, lexii, and having seen far too many dogs at Danaher with dreadful flea allergies, I'd rather err on the side of caution.

Could I ask as a moderator that you make it clear your statements are your opinions and not fact when you're going against veterinary advice? It would be a shame for someone to believe that they don't need to use flea prevention treatment because they have read here that they don't work unless the dog already has fleas, or similar things. Thanks

although i accept that the spot ons prevent fleas, i don't use them unless i see fleas. I just don't like putting strong chemicals on my dog if theres no need.

Gizmo got fleas as a puppy and wound up with a fairly bad skin rash which made him miserable as sin. I use advocate monthly because there's so many dogs in the parks I go to some of them are bound to have fleas at the very least.

imo I would only give treatment in summer otherwise the fleas become immune to the treatment you give them.

I’ve heard of Bravecto, but not seen anyone using it around me.
Among Advantix, Bravecto, Frontline, Nexgard, Bayer Kiltix, Above all,
I think the most popular one these days for dogs is Nexgard.
My sister uses Bayer Kiltix Necklace on her dog for fleas and ticks
and My uncles' dogs are on Nexgard all of the seasons.

(both from either walmart/amazon/ petbucket.com, if you want to know more info) I guess they both work great now that the medication won't wash off unlike Frontline.
