Our pup is doing really well. Plays well with other dogs very well and is a real character. However. She has this very annoying and sometimes painful behaviour of not only jumping up on people, but nipping at their hands. She doesn't do it to us, but when excited around others she is a real pain. Obedience trainers have given us good advice, but the reality is we have to basically keep her on lead when out and about and with any new guests who don't know her. Obviously we try ignore the behaviour and get guests and friends to do the same. My question is whether this is a common behaviour and is it likely to be something she grows out of? She gets into a state of hyper arousal when meeting new people and I am hoping over the next few years she will be a bit more calm. Any experience with similar issues?

Hi Laura, Yes it is common for staffies to do this as they get very excited very quickly especially with humans as they are very people orientated. Harley used to do this up until about 10-11 months he still occasionally mouths peoples hands lightly we try and discourage with a firm no and ignore him so what your doing with Echo is fine and eventually the penny will drop Smile. Also if we have visitors around the house we give Harley a large knuckle bone to chew on which distracts him and stops him from jumping on guests. Hope that helps

You are doing the right things and she is very likely to learn that the behavior is unacceptable
