When to teach
Miley today appears to be a very confident little darling with the potential to be an absolute menace if I let her..she's chewing anything-blankets, toes, clothing...and barking (puppy style) when these things are removed from her. So taking into account she has been here a little over 24 hours, when is the best time to start teaching her right from wrong? I have been moving her away when she has been biting and barking, but wondered if she should be allowed a settling in period of a few days before or am I doing the best thing by starting as soon as possible so she knows who's boss?

Start as you mean to go on. Even at a very early age they will learn. Remove the article or body part being gnawed from said razor sharp teeth and replace with a toy each time. This will reinforce the fact that toys are for chewing, people and their things aren't

Re: When to teach
We started "laying down the law" with pepper as soon as she got here, and touch wood it seems to have paid off. She's a well behaved puppy in general, the biggest thing for us was the nipping and as Ian said we replaced a hand/jacket/door frame with a toy and she only nips now if she's over excited.
When researching the breed before committing the first thing that popped up in most sources regarding Staffies was "start as you mean to go on"!
Good luck I hope she settles for you quickly!

Me and my partner started laying the law down with Tyson straight away soon as we got him cos in my eyes it's better to start earlier then later.
Hope she settles for you
