im new and have a question about puppy colours.

Hi, im new here and no longer have a staffy
But I have a question regarding colour in puppies and thought this would be the best place to ask.

A friend of mine has bred his brindle dog with a blue dog.
I told him i didn't think he would get blue puppies probably brindle ones and possibly black and/or red.
Ive read about colour genetics in dogs but don't completely understand it yet.

Can anyone help me out?
What colour puppies can be expected/possible from a brindle dog and a blue dog?

hia from me and sasha sorry not 100% sure to be honest,i think black and brindle might get you blue pups i think it goes down to the grandparents and their parents too,i'm sure the pups will be gorgeous what ever colour they are,were both the parents health tested

I think it depends on who carries the dilute gene but to find out they'd have to test. Yes I think theyve both been health tested. I can't wait to meet the pups

Hello and welcome. The pubs will be fab. I am unsure too, but think somewhere on here, breeding blue with blue is a no, and you wont get blue pubs.
Sorry to hear you no longer have a staffy. Would you be taking on one of the pubs?

They could turn out any colour.
It's all to do with genetics, colour comes from the B locii. The parents will be either BB, Bb or bb, and each pup will receive one of these allele from each parent. The blue ( dilute) comes in on the D locii , and for the pups to turn out blue they would have to be dd. It's not a strict no no to breed two dilutes, but they would have more chance to receive a faulty d, which would lead to CDA (colour dilute alopecia).
