Re: How often do you walk your dog?
Moo gets one morning walk with a ball or frisbee for about an hour and then another afternoon walk where her nanny (my mum!!) takes her for a longer romp in the woods somewhere. She is a very lucky girly because then she spends the whole day at work with me and usually playing with the customers. I always worried I overwalk her but she just keeps going as with all staffys!! God only knows where they get there energy from!!

I have started taking my dog for a 40 min cycle about 7 in the morning, which he loves.
Then I take him out for over an hour about 5ish when i get home from work.

I am taking Lady for a good 45/1 hour walk in the morning.
we found a great field that she really loves.
same here, she needs it twice a day.I can go once with the family and once just me and her.

Dempsey gets about 3/4 hour in the morning (on lead to the park, if there're no dogs around then off lead to play with his boomer ball), then about an hour lunchtime & another hour evening again with his boomer ball. He's fit.

I hope you don't take them out directly after their meal? That's a recipe for disaster - namely bloat.

About 10-15 mins twice a day, wouldn't push any more than that to start with, even though Milly will still want to go you dont want to overdo it.

Re: How often do you walk your dog?
I love seeing pups out for the first time! They get most of their exercise by playing at home/in the garden, but a couple of short walks a day (10/15 minutes maximum) to start with will be fine. Gradually build up to about 1 mile per walk by the time they're 6 - 9 months old, and then build up again to 2 or 3 miles per walk up to 12 months. Then............whatever they'll take!

Re: How often do you walk your dog?
Samson gets 2-4 walks a day, my mam pops and takes him during the day
the rule for Milly is 5 mins for every month, twice a day so at 12 weeks old that would be 2 15 min walks a day its just a guide she may need less but to much exercise can cause bone and muscle problems later on

Re: How often do you walk your dog?
I don't take my two out every day as Taz is 13 now and although he enjoys his walkies if he goes every day he does become very lame, so when we do go out we have to take it steady and come home when he starts to look tired. He is still very happy though and is more than content sniffing around the garden for an hour when it's not raining

Yes he is Janey, we've only had him since august, we rescued him from Dogs Trust but he is my little star! We're his 4th home!
I think the title of fair weather dog has to be reserved for Dizzy though, if she thinks its raining outside when I try and get her to go out she will just shut her eyes and pretend to be asleep. And if I try and walk her in it she will just sit down and refuse to move until I take her in again! Spoilt or what?

Not spoilt at all, mines exactly the same! If its raining its a no go. Poor Taz having so many unsettled homes, nice one for taking him in.

Re: How often do you walk your dog?
At the moment; not enough. Due to him not living with me, my Auntie having long 12 hour shifts nearly every day and my cousin (who claims he owns Prince) not bothering; Prince only gets a walk occasionally. It's awful, I know, and I don't blame you guys if you berate me. I'm struggling from clinical depression at the moment, and find it very difficult to get out of the bed in the mornings and I feel awful about not taking him for walks, but it takes so much courage to get out of bed. I'm hoping that when I get better, I can start taking him for at LEAST a daily walk, because it's not fair on him and I truly do love him, so I want to make him happy and look after him the way he deserves.

Hi Carmen,
Exercise is great for depression! So you would both benefit from a daily walk! no matter how far i'm sure Prince would love it!
Hope he gets to live with you soon!

Ooo, I know, it's just hard to get out of bed. I don't sleep all night either, so end up sleeping all day. I have to go round there to give him his medication and I'm barely even managing that
I feel so awful, although, really, it's my cousin's responsibility. I'm really trying though, I am.I wish he could live with me but that's unlikely to happen. I know, for a start, that my cousin would have a fit. It's only 'his dog' when he doesn't have to pay Prince's constant vet bills and treatment, and feeding him etc.

Re: How often do you walk your dog?
Carmen, don't worry if you can get out with him for walks, even if you just sit on the floor and play fetch it's physical exercise for him! If we can't get out for some reason with Molly we have a massive play in the living room, making her jump up on the sofa and around the living room. Also, remember just teaching your dog new tricks and commands is mental training and although it won't shed the pounds or anything like that, it's better than doing nothing at all.

Thank you, that made me feel so much better. I remember reading somewhere yesterday about people walking their dogs and not interacting with them so when I took him for a walk today, I tried to interact with him as much as I could. I wasn't sure how to though, but I still tried. I took him for a walk yesterday and today, so hopefully I can carry on with that trend. He's not very playful anymore though, like he seems depressed. I'm worried about him.
