First day with my new dog

Hi,

I' m now the proud owner of my first Staffordshire. She is now curled up fast asleep snoring her head off. As soon as I got her I took her to the vets as she has a skin condition on her feet, tail and also her ears are infected so she is on meds for those and will be going back next week for a 'bath'.

Its been quite the day for her and has resulted in one mushy poop on my carpet and two wet patches, a long walk and a bath afterwards (which she wasn't keen on). Luckily the poop was just at the front door so hopefully I can get her trained to let me know (apart from the regular toilet sessions) when she needs to go again.


I have had a GSD previously so any info regarding staffies would be great.

Of sorts, yes. It was a private sale and judging by the issues with her from what the vet said, she is better off (without blowing my own trumpet) where she now is.

aww poor girl glad she has her forever home with you now and getting all her health issues sorted out ,just give her a bit of time to settle in she's bound to have a few accidents the first day or so,just clean it up and dont make a big deal out of it she'll soon realize where she needs to go out,spend i bit of time reading all the links on here they are a big help,just shout if you need any advise on a certain thing,staffies crave human attention and love nothing more than to be sat on your lap

staffies are definitely a people and childrens you'll love getting to know her wee quirks and misbehaviours lol

Thanks folks. To be fair with all thats gone on today I wasn't surprised. She didnt get a telling off just a firm no and then I cleaned it up. She is so gentle too, which I wasn't fully expecting although she gave a growl to one women who went to stroke her in the pet shop.


I am sure we will both find our own do's and don'ts as time goes on. I have a feeling though she may end up on the bed tonight.

.. They do tend to get into your heart very quickly and into your bed too

aww sash has always slept on our bed,its some thing you have to make your mind up if you want them to or not

Well I will see how tonight goes first. I think with it been her first night in a new home she may like that (lol who am I kidding). One thing of note, she doesn't half let rip, right stinkers too lol

Yeh, I'm hoping so too. Crikey, thats 3 in the past 10 minutes. Poor little bugger is fast asleep too and is oblivious to what she is putting her Dad through lol.

Well, the first night wasnt too bad, I brought her bed to the bedroom but would she hell as like stay there. So yes, she ended up on the bottom of the bed. Woke this morning to find myself on the edge of the bed while she was sprawled across it lol. Training starts tomorrow.

aww funny how they sneak their way on the bed ,i hope her bum is smelling better today

Yeh, no matter how many times I told her to get off she soon jumped back on. I don't mind once in a while but I like my sleep lol.

Thankfully her bum is smelling much better. Goodness knows what she had been fed. I also appear to have a shadow too ;-).

My girl was on top of the covers the second night as well but the third night she got under the covers
