Advice on my dogs weight Empty Advice on my dogs weight

Post by Max-19042013 Tue Feb 18 2014, 09:32

Hi is there anybody on here who could help me regarding my 10 month old male staffs size and weight?

we took our boy Max to the vet yesterday to weigh him for his worming tablet and me and my wife were a little bit shocked at his weight, dont get me wrong he's not overweight as he has a defined waist its just the fact he is only 10 months and still growing the vet said he will get even bigger between now and 14 months! is this true? max is blue and brindle and weighs 21.45KG or 47.2LBS, how big is he likley to get? or is that like asking how long is a piece of string, has anybody else had a big pup or similar experience to this? any advice would be lovely.

Regards Andy

Hi Andy, I have similar question few weeks ago that my 6month old weight 16.5kg the other day and how much he is going to grow. My vet said he will be around 23kg and ask people on this site and heaviest I have replied was 26kg. Also staffy grow till 2-3 year old so still long to go for both of us! My dog Zeus also blue/brindle but yours looks more blue to me compare to mine how interesting those mix colour turn different colour!

My dog is a lean 21.6kg, so I dont find Max's weight very odd. As I understand it, the breed standard is meant to be lighter than that. Perhaps Max is crossed with something else? Many people have said to me that Douglas is EBT cross. If so, that would explain the chunkier size - he's no lap dog (even if he thinks he is). Whatever, Max looks like a very handsome dog.

Wouldnt have a clue, as Pixee is my first staffy and a rescue too. She was only 10 to 13 kg when we brought her home at 13 months old. Oh yeah she was underweight. Shes now between 19 to 21kg at age of 3. Staffies vary to weight, due to build, tone etc as I have learned. As long as you excise him, and dont over feed he will be fine.

My dog was 23kg at ten months the vets where shocked aswell but he was all in proportion so didnt matter should be the same with yours hes just not bred to the breed standard and his mum and dad where huge so it was genetic im guessing yours will be the same mate woudnt worry.

Lula is 5kg but she only 13 weeks old  Smile the vets said her weight is perfectly normal. I did ask would she be able to tell me how big she was going to be. The vets said its too hard to judge at these age. I mentioned the breed measurements and she did say Lula was leggy and maybe a little bigger. I said as long as we were not talking great Dane size it was fine lol

My AST is 24.7kg @ 14 months.

Id guess weight is dependent on what you feed them and how much exercise the dog gets
