Guinea Pig Staffy Dilemma : ( Empty Guinea Pig Staffy Dilemma : (

Post by stuandlee Mon May 02 2011, 21:19

Hi Guys, just thought i would give you an update on the guinea pig situation with our staffy we just rehomed.

Sadly and almost like a weird twist of horrific fate, the bottom of the hutch dropped - the bolts had somehow come loose and whilst we were in the garden, it just dropped out. The piggys just plopped on the floor infront of him. Turns out Ralfy didnt want to eat them but sadly he gave my elder one such a fright he had an instant heart attack.

I can safely say, as gorgeous and soppy as staffys can be, i do not recommend having them when you have guineas. Was a really sad day and poor Ralfy looked guilty all day....

Sad

In a conversation I had with David Harris before I got Dempsey, he said that he didn't recommend keeping any of the bull breeds (or blockheads as he calls them) with small pet rodents - instinct often gets the better of them!

Poor little pigsy, it must have been such a shock for him. Sad

Any Bull-breeds or terriers are difficult to keep with small animals especially rodents. So sorry you had to go through this.

Their Staffy sure enough but they are also a terrier and they have a very high prey drive. Weird though i'v never had that problem with my lot, From rats, wild birds, chickens, squirrals etc. I'm very sorry for your lose though.

Aww.. The poor little piggy.. I love guinea pigs, they are such wonderful characters. But yes, they can be a difficult combination with terriers and similar dogs.. especially if they don't grow up together.

iv had no probs with memphis and the rabbit so as said i think its if they have been introduced to furry animals from being really small you dont get to much problems

Poor Ralfy Sad Very strange that the hutch just 'fell apart'. Who built it?
