huffy cough a bit worried :0/
Hi, we've had Milo 2 weeks thursday and got his first lot of jabs done 2 days after getting him, so 10 days ago now. He has had what we would describe as a huffy kind of cough, like when you have some thing caught in your throat and don't cough properly but kind of cough all the same - am I making sense here?! He has sneezed out and has had yellowy green mucous come out of his nose on 2 occasions now my husband has noticed but no further evidence on him or his bed at other times. This had been going on maybe since last wednesday. It co-incides with me trimming our rabbit's rear end fluffy hair (the long bits get matted from the dewy grass sometimes he's out 24/7) Milo the silly boy ate some of the hair - I didn't clear it up in time!
He certainly seems very fit and well, very active alert etc good appetite, poos normal etc. but the snotty nose bit has got us worried a bit now. He has a dry his nose and not at all runny am a bit stumped, should we be worried or are we being ott? My husband is going to take him to the vets tommorrow for a check up. It's not a side effect from the jabs is it? Although I don't have his card yet - I presume you get given it once the course is all done but?? so I can't check but kennel cough isn't routinely done is it? I thought it was a seperate one, but I've been out of the loop a few years now. Can you get this kind of side effect from the jabs? Is it a mild case of kennel cough or a bad case of rabbit fur-itis?! Confused! He was found stray and not in isolation at the rescue centre and it was heaving so anything is possible

Sounds like kennel cough so if hes going to the vets its worth mentioning it , ive never herd of a cough from the jabs and its very common in rescue centres but hell be fine im sure as long as hes healthy eating and drinking. Best to keep him isolated from others until you get the all clear from the vets its highly contagious

I'd say it's kennel cough. The vaccine isn't routinely given because there are so many strains of the virus, and not all of them will be killed by the vaccine.
I doubt it's the rabbit fur; if he ate it he'd more likely have the runs rather than a cough.
The vet will probably treat it as kennel cough & it'll be gone in no time.

Re: huffy cough a bit worried :0/
Hi thanks for your reply guys
Been googling and I'm thinking ?a mild case of it (kennel cough) as he really does seem tip top in health otherwise, as I write here this eve he is happy gnawing away at his bone and has 2 'funny 5 minute' episodes of tearing about!
Rabbit fur? nah surely wouldn't be still going on now plus on 3 meals a day I'd have thought if it was it would have passed along well by now!
I'm at work tommorrow but told my husband to take him more for a diagnosis really as am not convinced he needs treatment, the site I saw said it ususally sorts itself out within 10 days, his certainly hasn't got any worse. He is in isolation anyhow as he has not had his 2nd jab and if it's that contagious then maybe attending the vets isn't the best idea? I'll get him to call first thing so they can advise, they're a great family run vets and I totally trust them which is a help thanks for your advice toox

Some vets will let it take it course, especially if it isn't severe. Some will automatically treat it to stop it getting worse.
A young & fit dog normally doesn't have too much trouble with a mild dose!

Re: huffy cough a bit worried :0/
Hi well Milo spent mpost of the small hours yesterday coughing the poor thing with thick green discharge from both nostrils now :0( Hubby took him to vets and he said no to it being kennel cough but more likely a foreign antibody causing infection....I think my husband got this wrong and he meant foreign body lol as he said if meds. didn't sort they'd need to scope him :0( I'm now thinking maybe it's a stray bit of blinking rabbit fur caught in his trachea of similar but who even knows with these things :0/
He's on bisolvon to help break up the thick mucous and some a.b's for the infection. Vet said he can't have next lot of jabs next weds. if it hasn't cleared up - great poor Milo, not only all this crap but a prisoner in our garden and house even longer
oh well on the bright side things could have been worse!

cool thanks guys :0)
Moni it is so like a doggy cold but no streaming eyes like us ha ha! Hopefully it's a simple cold and that's the end of it.
He's as perky and lively as ever and the ab's haven't upset his tummy yet.
see you x

Dogs can't catch colds. So if they're sneezing, coughing or have runny nose it's something else.

I looked it up and went on a few website and also spoke to my vet, and everyone has said dogs and cats can get colds, but there is nit much you can do about it.
