sleep in eyes

sleep in eyes
billy gets an awful lot of sleep in his eyes, we had them checked out about 4 weeks ago at the vets, and he said everything was ok, but i wondered if we should take him back or is this normal.
His eyes are slightly red in the corner, could this be an infection

Re: sleep in eyes
Moo gets sleepy dust but not too much, if your worried I'd go back to the vets and ask to see a nurse. Probably nothing but you never can be to carefull with eyes.

Re: sleep in eyes
Dempsey gets a lot od sleep in his eyes & it's perfectly normal. But if the eyes are a little red, then just a quick word with the veterinary nurse might be a good idea. He might have hay fever!

Re: sleep in eyes
If they are a little red I would check with the vet. If he keeps getting dust or something in there that irritates you can always rinse them out with chamomile tea (just make sure the tea is all chamomille and no additives - then just make it like you would make a cup for yourself, cool and rinse). Chamomille has a mild antibiotic effect and soothes irritation - I use it on myself for my allergies and the dogs seem to prefer it over salt water solutions.
Re: sleep in eyes
Yes I agree with the chamomile tea.. it works really well !

Re: sleep in eyes
Saxon gets a lot of sleep in his eyes some mornings. The vet said it was ok. I'll have to try the chamomile tea to rinse out his eyes. I just made a big batch this morning and iced it!

Re: sleep in eyes
I dont mean to worry you Lynne but staffords have been identified as carrying a faulty gene and heditary catarac has shown up in the breed.
You can google it for more info but its probably nothing but a slight infection so its best to get it checked by the vet

Re: sleep in eyes
Glad he got to see the vet, now hopefully the eye drops will fix the irritation.
The third eyelid is a membrane protecting the eye and it's usually not something we notice at all, but there can be different kinds of diseases (like cherry eye) and irritation that makes it noticeable. It's often much easier to see on cats - where you can see it appearing in the corner of the eye closest to their nose when they are closing their eyes.

Re: sleep in eyes
we also have not got to wipe his eyes on sat, so the vet can see the sleep and bit of discharge. Hope he does not need an operation.
