Help on piriton dosage

Hey guys, marley has had another grass reaction, from her play group. The vet prescribed her prednisone and gave her an antihistamine injection in June and has helped. I want to stay clear from steroids though. I keep hearing of piriton so I got her some of the 4mg tabs. I have given her a half a tablet for now but I Havnt been able to find any dose details.

She is 14kg @10 months. Can someone tell me the correct dosage please? Thanks.

I give Darcy 1 in the morning 1 at night, as per vets advice, at the start of the flare up, for a couple of days, but at first I gave her 1/2 in the am 1/2 in the pm they may cause drowsiness but they didn't with Darcy.

Great, was she around the same weight as marley? I'm going to rub her down with some coconut oil as well.

Generally speaking, doses aren't too important with antihistamines, as it's an inhibitor - it acts by either inhibiting the reaction or by blocking attachment to receptors. You can't really overdose, as once the full potential of the anti-histamine is reached, further doses just won't make any difference.

Most people give their dogs a Piriton tablet in the morning, and then again at night. These doses can also be broken into halves and spread out through the day.

Edit: Just realised that may have been a bit confusing, so here's how I sometimes explain it:

Think of the anti-histamine as a pencil. Think of the histamine, which causes the reactions such as swelling, soreness, irritation, etc., as a blank sheet of paper. Once you colour in the entire piece of paper, there's nothing else the pencil can do to it - there are no more blank spaces to colour. The same goes for anti-histamines. Once they've reached their full potential and done their job, more doses won't have any effect.

Yes she was about marleys age too, start with 1/2 twice a day. I'm sure it'll help clear it up quickly give her a rub down with a damp cloth 1st.
