Pedigree dentastix Empty Pedigree dentastix

Post by lesley1802 Fri Aug 09 2013, 23:19

Hi

Has anyone else had problems with these? Cooper gets one and within half an hour he's h cotrollable, bitey, wild etc

We only just noticed that he is only like this or the few hours after having one, noticed a pattern.

We're binning the rest, anyone know of a good replacement? We have stag antlers but looking for more of a treat thing that helps with teething and teeth health.

Thx

Lesley

Hi.
Vet told me with my last dog they are full of sugars and all sorts.
Lol have noticed with puppy tho tht some treats make her LOONEY and i mean looney lol she bounces and her eyes look wild!
Yeah carrot and stagbars are defo a winner, theres now stagbars with ropes and hard rubber rings attached.
Also royal canin have there own version of dentastick but u can only get at vet

Rocky used to have the dentastix but they made him sick so we stopped giving them. He now has a stag bar instead, much better.

All great advice above, Rocky also gets a frozen kong daily, i fill it with a mashed banana or peanut butter you could even put his coopers food with some kibble and a little water in and freeze, they are great to keep them occupied too Smile

Bacchus has had these on occassion wothout any noticeable side effects. As Ella says they probably don't contain the best of ingredients and obviously have some additive which is making Cooper hyper. Lots of altenatives as suggested.

Dentastix have never gone down well with Zeus, I used to give him one everyday around 2pm (to compensate for his afternoon feed which we stopped giving), but he'd soon start scratching himself all over. There's something in there which reacts to him so we stopped giving them.

I give mine one each at night, not so much for the cleaning properties but more as a treat. they are only 82 calories so less sugar than most will think. They have two active ingredients that mix with the saliva and slow down tatar build up.
but for the best teeth cleaning it has to be what others have already mentioned, go natures way and get a good bone which will clean them up really well.
