Dempsey's kennel name is Frachadem Thrilla in Manila, the 'Thrilla in Manila' bit being named after a fight between Mohammed Ali & ? Can't remember the other one. Dempsey came to mind as Jack Dempsey was also a heavyweight boxer. And the name seemed to suit him.

Re: Where does your dog’s name come from?
My mum got a german shep 2 weeks before i was born and we had him until I was nearly 16. He had bright blue eyes so my mum named him blue.
So when I rescued my irish blue staff a month ago, I thought there is only 1 name for him.

When we were active in showing our American Bulldogs we named them all after bottles of French wine. Then it grew into just being named after other drinks, and our favorite TV shows. We have BRDX' Two Buck Chuck, call name Hodgins (after a character on the TV show Bones) and then BRDX' Fringe Martini, call name Olive after the garnish to the drink and the character Olivia on the TV show Fringe. Quirky, yes but fun.

Nitro Havoc was actually named after WCW Nitro and the ppv at the time Halloween Havoc(i got him on Oct) but the name suited him so well, Harley name just popped into my head when the breeder told me she needed a name for his papers(it wasn't on my list of names that i liked)so it had to be Harley Nitro Havoc(in memory of my other boy Nitro)

Re: Where does your dog’s name come from?
Toro - was easy
First I think that I give finnish name for pup, but I wanted some "international" name. What name would discriple red staffy male...
I also love latin names and language so it was easy to search name from there.
My first name candidates was Perro (Dog), Loco (Mad). I also thinked to finnish names with twist like Haba (muscle), Nero (Wise) with 2 dogs they would be habanero haha - maybe not so funny
Too long thinking get me to the point when I just had to decide. Well when I got to know the history of Staffordshire BULL terrier, the BULL was the most descriptive name for staffy i thinked.
So now my boy is Toro (Bull) and his name matches his character so good.

Dizzy got her name because 5 minutes after we got her home I said 'This bloody puppy is making me dizzy', and it just kind of clicked but I think it really suits her. Taz was called Taz when we got him and as he was already 13 i didn't think it was fair to change his name.

Re: Where does your dog’s name come from?
Pingu was named after a cartoon- Pingu, a play-dough animation TV show that I watched everyday when I was little. My mum accidentally saw the children's TV show, Pingu and remembered it. Loved the name, and now that is his name, Pingu.
Saffy, born in September 10th, 1 day after my mum's B-day, Sapphire being September's birth stone, Saffy was a short version of Sapphire because we knew we wouldn't call her a long name.... too lazy to say a long name. So Saffy it was.

Re: Where does your dog’s name come from?
Well we were going to call him milo but............ when we moved here a year ago, my hubby who is diabetic had a hypo and of all places to have one was outside and all the children round our area saw it. After that they keep winding my children up by singing low low low and how low can steve go, well my children about 5 years ago nearly lost their dad and when the kids were teasing them it brings back all the bad memories of that occasion. So knowing how childish the kids are round here we changed his name to bruno so the kids wouldn't start up again teasing my children.
And that's the story how he got his name.

Re: Where does your dog’s name come from?
Hollie's name before I got her was Dolce, but I named her Hollie because;
The ancient Celts would bring holly into their homes for their bright, cheerful disposition. They were also considered a symbol of good luck.
Just as the oak attracts lightning, holly repels lightning. It was often planted around homes for protection from lightning, and for this reason it is viewed as a symbol for protection.
And I got her on the 18th December so very close to Christmas time

I did wonder if he was named after Woody from The Bay City Rollers!! ..swoon...
speaking of wood.... one night Jethro ( when he was alot younger ) chewed through our jarrah step leading into our kitchen.... boy oh boy Jethro doesn't realize how lucky he is to be alive after that episode! I did some serious grovelling ( and crying ) that night to Tony!
