When considering another Staff....
When considering to get another staffy pup, is it better to have 1 of each gender, or the same.........

Re: When considering another Staff....
I'd always go for one of each. Partly because they are less likely to squabble, but also because you get a nice balance of temperaments.

Re: When considering another Staff....
Everyone tends to say one of each but my two M&F have a love hate relationship! I thought that they would soon sort out who was going to be boss, but not one of them will back down. Mainly its over toys or attention, just like children. lol

i have two female dogs, both get on fine.
My boyfriends dogs, the fights that happen are always between m & f rather than same sex...(they have 2 female, 4 male)

Re: When considering another Staff....
You'll all get fed up with this story soon - my friend had 2 staffy bit.ches who had been brought up together & were very friendly with each other. They used to be left in the living room when my friend & her husband had to go out. One day, coming home, they found the living room covered in blood & two semi-comatose dogs lying on the floor.
This illustrates 2 things - two dogs should never be left alone in one small area for any length of time and 2 bit.ches can & do fight if something upsets them. Neither bit.ch ever argued with the male staff in the house.

Re: When considering another Staff....
we defo what caryll says lol. Personally i would not leave to staffs together anyway regardless of sex coz when they go they really go and wont stop till well....u no what i mean. But definatley never leave to of the same sex together ever unsupervised its just not worth the risk. My boys get separated even when i go to the loo lol. Sometimes i feel really mean separating them when im off out when they are all cuddled up together sleeping but i no how they "play" and nowadays either me or hubby need to almost always step in say enough is enough! x

Yes, it doesn't take much for a game to end up as a fight, and if there's nobody there to separate them...............

Re: When considering another Staff....
1 of each is generally advised as it reduces the chances of power stuggle, of course not always the case but it does reduce the chance of any such issues.

i have now got 3 girls and used to have 2 girls and 1 boy
the girls are really good together and curl up and sleep together the male just used to do his own thing and if the girls interfered he would tell them who the boss was

Re: When considering another Staff....
well I have 2 staffys.....Jethro my desexed male is 12 years old, and Winston a 16 week old male ( he will be getting desexed when old enough ) , and I have never, and would never leave them alone together. They get on fine but I would never ever trust them if I wasn't around. I would be more worried about Winston hurting Jethro as Jethro is old and puney.. Winston strong and young and ready to take on the world! Was talking to someone at my vets and they went out and left their old and young staffy together.. got home and they must have been mucking around, and probably only playing, but the old staffy had a broken back. How horrible.!! When we go out one is in, one is out.. and we don't have to worry !!

Don't forget that a new pup will one day be old enough to consider itself top dog - that could lead to an argument between them. That in itself probably isn't a problem as long as you are there when it happens! After what happened to my friend's dogs I would never leave 2 staffs alone together.
