That is the proper stance here in the US. The really wide ones were more for fighting. They should be a leggier SBT type build. Proportionate though.

Yep apart from the ears that is what we would call a pitbull over here.. You still get the knobs that say differently, you know the ones I meet everyday who ask me " Is she an English, Irish or American Staffy?? I'm sick of trying to ed-u-cate them though I just say yeah she is a Staffy and leave them guessing

pitbull shouldn't have huge head they should be tall and lean for their size with a head that goes with it

yes i no but that head is far to small for how tall the dog is, it looks ridiculous

OMG can't believe how big the pitbull is, i watch a show on animal planet about pitbulls and never think they look THAT much bigger than staffies clearly i was wrong lol

Yes, pit's are taller and leaner, We had a pit when my youngest was 4. Penny, she was tall and lean, are right looker. I often laugh when people asume a pit should be very muscly, a true pit should be as pictured.

Depends on the size of the APBT - there are some that could be passed of for slightly over Staffs in fact some smaller than top end Staffies. Granted not a vast majority because the current trend is to breed bigger dogs but there certainly have been dogs that would pass. Just google "Small APBT"

This is what make "pitbull type" such a joke. They based the original DDA Pitbull Type Description on the ADBA Standard of an APBT. The problem being that the ADBA is the performance type american pitbull which means that the look can change quite dramatically - from big to small, wide to thin and even head shapes vary a little.

The only sense I can make from it is that there were never that many true APBTs in this country and almost all current ones (certainly the ones people will brag about) are cross breeds and maybe (just maybe if i give them some credit lol) the government decided this law would give them the ability to remove/destroy dogs which were mixed breeds bred to look a certain way which clearly possess a lot of power which is NOT combined with the stable temperament of a good SBT or indeed a well bred APBT.

I hope this makes sense - it started as a short reply then escalated into a semi-rant lol

I wouldnt say any of them are particularly good examples ... but what it does show if anything is the diverse size and shape of two bull breeds ... staffys and APBT's can look soooo far from the standard in some case's (especially pits)

You're right. APBT's can really vary if you do a google search you can find many that are around the 30lbs give or take 3lbs either way!!! And in the middle you have a common weight range of between 40 - 60 lbs maybe pushing up to the 70lb mark before you end up with the huge ones of 100'lbs although I am sceptical of the breeding of MOST of these huge dogs to my mind there is most likely something else in the mix. It's this huge variation that makes it such a confusing discussion.

they look fine to me the staffies look like any show dogs i have seen the pitbull in a bit large that i would want but only just IMO it should be a bit leaner also but that could be the angle of the cam... i wouldn't want a pitbull the same size of staffy if i did i would buy a staffie instead a of pitbull

that the problem with pitbull breeders they follow their own standard instead of working to together

I understand but even the UKC American Pit Bull Terrier Standard states a Male should be between 35lb and 60lbs with height being less important than proportion. Whilst the ADBA standard doesn't provide a guideline apart from saying that height and weight should be proportional. And the AKC doesn't recognise the American Pit Bull Terrier or certainly not in a way a true APBT purist would see it - instead it has the American Staffordshire Terrier which depending on who you speak to is either the same dog or show equivalent(whole new debate but probably not relevant to a Staffordshire Bull Terrier board). But their standard opts for 17 to 19 inches to the whithers (how many SBT's here measure similar (17-18 inches seems quite common) and weight is supposed to be proportionate - although I most tend to be a tad heavier than equivalent SBT's.

Anyway, I guess I've taken this a little off topic So bringing it back - great photo

I disagree, its more pitbull looking than the bulky bulldog ona steroids that most people think is a pitbull now.

Look at the hind quaters of the two standing dogs ... little or no muscle tone from where I'm sittin ... pretty small heads, and not very wide across the chest, any of them ... tho like I said, I dont think that pic is doing them any favours!

I agree with andy, i no pits should be slim and lean with a smaller head then staffs, but it's a p*ss poor example of pits, and if it's a show dogs then the bar is extremely low

I'm willing to bet it is the type of shot and the editing that make it look worse. My guess is that in the right pic, they would look better.

yer but it's head isn't going to look any better, still think regardless of which way you look at it, it will look poor

Little longer snout I think and makes it look small. Lots around here look like that (although they do not claim to be show dogs and are probably x).

I just don't think it's a very good example, and definitely wouldn't show it if it were my dog.

this is a amstaffy and a staffy the staffy look to stocky to me

the first pic look like a pitbull i would want well just about anyway 1/2 " smaller a bit more leaner that a pitbull to me but saying that in person it could be perfect
