There was an interesting letter in the August edition of this magazine on p.29-30 titled Education, Education about a reader who has questioned his vet regarding the annual vaccinations his dog receives. A good read if anyone gets the mag.

It very much depended on which brand of drug was administered to your dog, "one pharmaceutical company recommended only two vaccines to be given annually - leptospirosis and parainfluenza. The other three vaccinations - distemper, hepatitis and parvovirus - only needed to be given every three years.

A recent study in America suggested they need only be given every seven years. The other problem with vaccinations not being given yearly is some dog insurance policies state they will not cover the dog without proof of full vaccination history". Quoted from the magazine.

There is an antibody titre test available, which measures the amount of antibodies in the blood, to ascertain if the dog needs the vaccinations.
