POISONOUS PLANTS
Hi
I googled a list of plants that could be poisonous for our new pup and luckily we don't have any.
But then I saw in a book that ivy was, is this true, our garden is full of ivy.
Thanks

Re: POISONOUS PLANTS
Pretty sure that ivy is toxic to most animals but ive never heard of ivy poisoning. We have it by my horse and she's never tried to eat it so I wouldn't go chopping every strand down. I think they would have to eat a fair bit to get ill

Ivy is toxic to dogs. Some seems to be able to eat some & it doesn't affect them othrs will be ill after eating just 1 or 2 leaves.

Re: POISONOUS PLANTS
Thank you, what do you think would be the best thing to do.
We have too much to get rid of it, do you think I should just ignore him if he goes for the ivy and see what happens (or is this cruel), or should I discourage him from the start.
Just thinking as well when we go for walks the woods are full of ivy as well, is there an instinct that they don't touch it. Sorry to go on and on and on.......

As a pup i wouldn't take the risk and even if he doesn't have a reaction the first time like us they can turn illargic to things over night, but like you said you have so many it'll be impossible to get rid of them, but you can teach him to stay away from their smell just like the mother would in the wild. its the only way i can think of where you don't have to watch every second he is out in your garden or on walks, but as long as he got plenty of things to do out your garden he shouldn't be bored enough to tests things with his mouth.

Re: POISONOUS PLANTS
thank you for your replies
how do you teach him to stay away from it, I say no but it's like a red rug to a bull, he want's it more. So I tried to ignore him, but then i was worried he would be ill, so now i am standing in front of the ivy with him trying to get around my legs.
