Emo the Flying Squirrel

It is with a heavy heart that I write this post. A little over six years ago, my stepfather flew to Tennessee and came back with a tiny little Southern Flying Squirrel that he gave to me for my 16th birthday:



I quickly grew very attached to the little guy, who I named Emo:




He spent his days hanging out in my shirt:


And he spent his nights running around in his cage and playing with me in the spare bedroom:








He was a handsome boy and as sweet as could be:










I am sad that I was not able to be there when he passed, but I feel fortunate to have been able to spend time with him 2 weeks ago. Tomorrow when I arrive in Connecticut for my brother's graduation, I will visit Emo at the lovely grave that my parents made for him. Rest well, sweet Emo. You will always be in my heart. 3/17/2006-6/14/2012

Thank you all for your kind words. I am so sad to have lost my little squirrelly pants, but I am also so glad that we got to spend 6 wonderful years together. Rest well, little man!

Here is a picture of Emo's resting place. Under a tall shade tree at the edge of the property. Saxon and I sat with him for a while, it's a very peaceful area. The little rock in the center is Emo's gravestone. I'm going to write his name and dates on the rock in paint. Rest well, sweet boy.
