south wales terrier show 6th may , Ferndale leisure center , Rhondda

Just entered kenny, sadley theres only 3 staffs entered in the staffy group and thats including kenny. The judge is coming down from irland ( my spelling is horrific) . I feel really sorry 4 him. Any1 entering

There was quite a few staffys there. And kenny got 2nd in 2 classes

Yes, there was some nice dogs there. there was 5 in kennys class,, about 10 all together, not a great amount. but better than 3 and all nice dogs,all really nice dogs xx

There was 2 blacks, 2 pie( from up country) ,a few blus, a white, and 2 reds, including kenny and 1 brindle. xx I would i find feed back. I've looked on the terrier groups website and theres nothing there ?

Was it an open show?

yes. The terrier club of south wales, open show. It was alovely day. I'd love to see what the judge had to say, but dont know where to look xx

The judge should submit a critique to one of the dog papers (either Dog World or Our Dogs, or both). Some judges will give a report on the first 3 places in each class, some will only give details of the first place & just name the others.

If you contact the Society they should be able to give you contact details for the judge & you can ask him which paper the report will be in. If they won't give you the contact details then ask them to find out for you.

Well done. It would be nice for you to find out what what the judges thought anyway.

I get Dog World every week - if you like I can keep an eye out for the report.

Yes please caryll, it would be nice to get some feed bac, it would proberly say what a terrible handler i am tho lol xx

Nothing wrong with a bit of constructive criticism then we know where we are going wrong and put things right

Judges rarely comment on bad handling unless it was really bad & stopped the dog from showing properly. They will often, though, comment on good handling. eg. "A handful, this one, but handled to advantage".

oh shat i missed that need to check this thread more would av defo took sox there only 10 mins away from me too,never mind were going to a fun dog charity show vale of glamorgan june 4th

Yes Caryll, kenny wasnt shown properly, my friends comment was " all we could see was your backside" I was bloody terrible. lol. Me and ken got a long way to go.

Something I was told when I first started to show........

"Showing techniques change all the time, but one thing never changes - the judge wants to see your dog, not you. Allways make sure you know where the judge is, and keep your dog between you & the judge. If the judge isn't looking at you, allow your dog to relax, but be prepared to get him alert again as soon as the judge looks round."

It takes a lot of practice!

i hope this aint crufts standard LOL,sox will prob roll on her back when judge comes around,maybe p**s on them ,she still gets ecxited when she sees new peeps ,only been to fun dog shows where they love it there,im gonna have to try and instill some discipline Ha very likley .I'll have a go anyway

Open shows are serious business! The judge will expect your dog to stand still while he runs his hands over it. Then he'll expect to be able to look at your dog in the 'stand' so that he can compare it to the breed standard & all the other staffs there. If you dog jumps around or rolls on its back, the judge won't be able to judge & you'll be 'thrown out with the rubbish'. (That's an old saying, by the way, & isn't meant in a derogatory way!)

oooh i think sox aint quite ready for this yet i will prob go along and observe i think see whats what,as i know what shes like
