Re: Tonks training.
Very nice video, och very cleaver puppy!
Is it ok if I give some tips?
- You should always reward her when you've given her a click, either with a treat or play of some sort.
- Try to train sit and down separately. This will give you a better understanding, from Tonks part, of what you want her to do. As it is now, she is learning that first you sit down, which is not rewarded, but, if, you continue and lay down, from the sit, then you'll be rewarded. It will be clearer for her what it is your are teaching her if you separate the two commands.
- And since she is very good already, I think you should try to get her to lay down from a standing position instead from a sitting position, which will give her an even more clear separation of the two commands.
And of course, lots of rewards and play!
But, as I said, its looking really good!

Thanks for all your feedback! She is lovely and doing really well. She was 7 weeks in that video. She already knows sit and does it without hand signals already - which i am really pleased with. Don't think you could tell from the vid, but there were tiny bits of treat going in with each click - bit hard to tell from that i think. Can't quite remember but i think we were only clicking for down there as she had already learnt sit. She is now doing down stay, roll over, walk to heel, come when call etc and really enjoying it!
I will move on the to the down from standing next, once we have had a bit more practice on the down stay. She has learnt that coming when called includes sitting in front of me straight away and having me touch her collar .......... just as a belt and braces security for when she is off lead outside with loads of distractions!
We went to puppy classes last night and she was so excited, but still managed to concentrate - but was also sick once..........it was all so exciting!!
Re: Tonks training.
Hay, just seen the benefit of watching video clips of your training. You're right - i was clicking and not treating in places! didn't think i was - must have been camera shy!
She can now do down from stand!

Re: Tonks training.
Kano always sits, when theres treats involved. Ask him to sit, he sniffs the air, no treat , no sit ! But he is getting better.
No ifs...No buts...

Re: Tonks training.
hi, i'm new here and get my 8 week old staffy soon after the 10th (still need to work out the flight times) i was just wondering what exactly the clicking is... i've never seen that before. very cute dog by the way.
Re: Tonks training.
Thank you - the click is a sound made by a clicker (a small box with a metal tab in it)
It is an excellent training tool and marks the behaviour that you are actually rewarding the dog for. Everytime they hear the click they know they have done what you wanted and they will get a treat within the next few seconds.
It is more precise than only using your voice and i think you get much quicker results.
You can find more about it on the web.

Thank you - she is five months now and i am really pleased with her.
This week she learned to go down at a distance (only a very very short distance with someone holding the lead) and back up into a sit from a distance.
I'm really enjoying having her.
Re: Tonks training.
Ah she is such a clever girl to learn so quickly, keep us updated with the training videos on her progress
