George - tricks and walks

Post by georgestaff on Wed 01 Oct 2008, 15:52

Hello

Here are a couple of videos of my dogs.

This is George doing a few of his tricks, proving that staffies can be trained!

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=SJW2TW23icw

And a video of my dogs and some of my mum's on walks, proving staffies can be dog-friendly (and in George's case, very tollerant of my puppy who bounces on him)

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=vidXfU-GMXM

I hope you enjoy the videos.

Hardtrackz - we do Heelwork To Music and we've had a go at obedience shows too. Smile

Staffylover - mine are George and the two yellow labrador crosses. My mum has the black collie, white shepherd and black and tan shepherd. It looks like a lot of dogs if we go for walks together!

Thats fantastic!! I want to learn how to teach my two to do tricks like that. Is it hard to learn to teach them? Is there a proper way of doing it? Smile

Hi Esther

I've been training George since he was a tiny puppy (9 years ago) so we find it quite easy because we're used to learning new stuff.

It can be harder at the beginning for some adult dogs that haven't been taught much before but they soon learn how to learn.

I use lots and lots of treats, toys and tuggy games as rewards. George is addicted to his clicker so we use that for teaching new tricks and sometimes for polishing up old moves we're not as good at.

There's no one proper way to train dogs but I've never met a dog who hasn't loved clicker training (there's lots of good articles on the internet about it and you can get books) but I've met a few people who didn't understand it and confused their dogs.

If there is a particular trick you want I can try and do a video on how to teach it if you like. Big grin

Thanks for the reply Big grin
Theres not one particular trick i'd like to teach them, i guess something simple to learn to begin with. The only thing my 2 know is sit, drop and wait hehehe...it'd be nice to teach them something else Big grin
If you do get some time, maybe you could do a quick tuturial video on simple tricks to teach dogs??
Thanks so much :-bd

going to be doing HWTM with Jasmine when she's a bit older, one thing ive never got my head round (though never actually tried) is the walking backwards around you, (she can walk backwards in a straight line and can do the reversing between your legs) very impressive! so feel free to put a vid on of how to teach that Smile

Thanks for the comments and the suggestion. That's a good idea because I've not taught that trick to my two young dogs yet.

Vix, do you clicker train? HTM is brilliant, you'll be great at it.

They were fab tricks, Would love to try something like that with Kai one day. kai is my first dog so im not very sure of how i should attempt to learn tricks. So if anyone does a vid or write up of how to start training & what tricks to start with. (after sit.lay paw and stay).
I for one would be really interested in it.
