Staffy bitch with unusual habit for "rubbing"

Ok, I have a (roughly) 4 year old Staffy bitch, which I have had for around 7 months. As far as I remember from the previous owners she has been through Obedience School for a previous problem. I just wish I could remember what the problem was etc but whatever it was, apart from the odd fight when she came into season along with two other Lab-Staff crosses we had, she's not exhibited any problems. Until now. She seems to have developed a strange habit of "rubbing" her private parts along a very nice soft rug that we have in the front room lol. I haven't as yet witnessed it properly but it sounds similar to a "Staffy Lay" but she drags herself along with her front legs, holding herself up at the same time, therefore "rubbing" along the rug. It's not so much a problem, and I am in the process of training to have her not go on the rug for ANY reason, but I just wondered if anyone knows what it's about? I did search through all the other posts but didn't come across anything of relevence, so thought i'd start my own. Hope someone can help.

Is her tummy red or have a rash? Sound more like she could have an allergy or an itchy belly and be scratching herself.

My bitch does this, it drives me mad. She does it more if she has been eating grass, i put it down to an itchy bum !!

I did think it was her anal glands but i've had her checked so many times when we have been at the vets for other things and she is always fine in that respect. I have given up now and just tell her off for doing it ... i call it "Skootching" LOL

I would also have her anal glands checked - dogs tend to do this rubbing from time to time when they have an itch - sometimes it turns out their anal glands require emptying - not something I would like to do myself - maybe worth a call / trip to the vets.

What are you feeding her on - Burns is a typical good food which is suppose to help with Anal Gland problems (that's if it is her glands)

It doesn't sound like she's scooting - from the post - but that she's dragging her belly across the rug, with her back legs out behind her.

It sounds to me like she is dragging herself along on her front commando style, unfortunately I have no idea why.

SO if she is healthy.. she is just being a tit like Bronx does through the grass commando style..

Maybe it just feels nice, its a nice soft rug maybe its just pleasant for her.

Apparently it looks more like she's rubbing her privates across the rug lol. Read the posts out and half the house said it could be "scooching" and the other half said she's definitely rubbing herself lmao. Her belly doesn't appear to be any more red, or more accurately, pink, than usual. Should she have a red or pink belly at all? She has had a litter before, and her nipples are a little kinda saggy lol. And she does like belly rubs. Too much sometimes lol.

She does have her front up, like she's not so much dragging herself commando style, but more walking along dragging her butt and legs behind her lol.

Any further ideas?

No, short pile rug, like your average real good quality carpet. But a rug. lol

If she's dragging her butt across the floor - have her anal glands checked. If she's dragging her belly across the floor - my Luna does this for fun or if it's itchy.

It's definitely her private parts being dragged, along with her back legs. Like I said, a "Staffy Lay" but holding her front up and pulling herself along. Exactly like that lol.

Thats how I understood it.

Luna does this - she seems to enjoy doing it. She also loves her belly rubs BUT she's allergic to grass and is always itchy when she's been out on it. IF you can't see a rash, any redness or anything odd I'd put it down to doing it for fun.

Coco does that all the time.
On carpet, the couch, grass, cememnt and even on my knee when she's getting down from a big cuddle. I think it just feels good, and as they say, if it feels good....do it.
She doesn't have rashes or itches. I think she just likes it. Perhaps your little girl is the same.

my bitch does this when pollen is partularly bad, she has atopic dermatitis (allergy)
