Staffie Puppy with my established cats - HELP!!
Hi Guys, we get our Staffie in 3 weeks time (at 9 weeks), we have 2 cats (both fully grown and established in our house) I wonder whether any of you have tips on how we can get them used to each other (and hopefully limiting the amount of stress to both species!)
Thanks for any help you can give

Re: Staffie Puppy with my established cats - HELP!!
hi i have three adult cats and ceaser
, he is now 14 weeks old and they are just starting to get used to him, and i dont mean snuggling up! i dont think there is any easy way of doing it you have just got to let them get on with it, ceaser still barks and chases them, but he knows when to duck !!! the cats are defo the boss and he knows that,
it may be a little hectic when your pup has found his feet but i would say they will get used to each other, you never know they may become best mates !!! there isnt much you can do really cos cats do what they want anyway!!! ( well mine do)

very true ceasarsgirl - we'll be keeping our fingers crossed for the next few weeks then! We'll keep you posted - how did you make the initial introduction?

Re: Staffie Puppy with my established cats - HELP!!
hoe did i introduce them, humm, the dog walked in and the cats went what the f***c!!!lol, it wasnt too bad at first cos he was soo small, but after a few days when he settled in and got a little cockey, it started the hissing, barking, scratching, chasing, etc, etc, i think the cats just have to teach your new dog some respect when it gets to that point, but your dog may not be as pushy as mine, he still hasnt learned and got a big scratch on his head.... guess he will learn in time, hope it all goes well gem x

Hi
I have a 4 month old staffie that I got at 8 week and I also have 2 eldery cats. This is probably not recommended but it worked for me - when Bettie was having her naps in the daytime (they do sleep a lot at first!) I would have her on the sofa and have the cat on my lap. The cat got used to the dog, the noise, smell, etc. and after a couple of weeks Elvis (the cat) didn't run when Bettie chased him. He stood his ground and hit her a few times. Bettie still tries to play with him but when she gets a slap she gives up. What I also do is feed the cats first (you may have to put them up on a table so the dog doesn't get the food!). Bettie stands and looks at them eating but doesn't make any noise and so the cats get used to her being around. It seems to be working at the moment.
Good luck.

Re: Staffie Puppy with my established cats - HELP!!
usually when staffies are introduced to the ''family'' as puppies there aren't too many probs.
we have 5 staffies & one cat.
the cat is a bloody tease but they all accept each other in the scheme of things.
just curious ceasersgirl...is ceaser sorta like caesar...as in julius caesar?
or ceaser as in cease-r....like stopper

Thanks for the posts so far guys, She's coming 2 weeks tomorrow and we can't wait, we've been researching all we need to know, so hopefully it'll go smoothly - will be happy to post a factsheet, if we mange to pull off the introduction and subsequent friendship between them. I'm more worried for little ruby, that the cats!
