walking in town
me again! (did warn you id have questions)
ok so jack is 12 weeks and loves his walks out but i have a few little problems
1, when we walk past people hes obviously excited and tries to go over to them and jump up of course i want to stop him doing this not only is it annoying and makes walks a nightmare (tho im glad he has a positive attitude to strangers) but as he gets bigger it might be taken the wrong way or he could hurt some one. at the min i tend to rein in the lead and try to pull him away but its just not stopping him hes willing to strangle him self to get at them any hints?
2, ok my boys just cute (i know im biased) and its really nice that people want to pet him BUT random people will just stop and make a big fuss of him or even try to tempt him over this not only gets him really over excited which means he attacks my ankles etc till he calms down but it also dont help with the above problem and makes it almost imposible to teach him to walk well on the lead around people! i know he can do it as he walks to heel when we are alone on and off the lead but he gets way to excited around people to walk nicely
how can i keep him calm and focused on me when people are around him ive tried food etc but no luck so far

Hi Emma lousie,
As most of the reply's suggest jumping up seems to be in breed in staffs, our 1 year old was really bad at this, we tried saying "no" firmly, putting her in another room, which all worked a bit but i stumbled across a "behaviour spray" in the pet shop and thought i'd try it , it makes a loud shreeking sound when pressed, we tried this every time she jumped up indoors and it has been quite affective. You can order it online which is cheaper.hope this is a little help. Hi Emma Louise,
I am glad that someone else is experiencing what I am!! One of the things that I do when people come up to my dog - now 4 months old - is I ask them to wait (particularly if they have children with them) - people seem to realise that you're training the dog and are very accomodating. I get her to sit and either I or the child give her the treat. She seemed to learn this trick really quickly although she is not great on the lead she is not jumping up at people as much as she used to.
Good luck
