Question For You
Right after watching that sad film about Sam. It got me thinking how calm and lovely he was! He looked so lovely and calm and gorgeous!
Why is it patch wont sit still and let me just stroke him without him trying to nip me. Unless he is tired then i can sit all night stroking him lol. Will he calm down with the nipping as he gets older? Am i wanting too much too soon? lol

Re: Question For You
Good things come to those who wait Matt, they also come to those who train and those who put effort in!

Re: Question For You
Do you think his nipping is just something he will grow out of? As he doesnt seem to show any signs of real aggression he just nips as if its a game. He is doing it less now actually.
Also when i come home and open his crate and he stands on me knees as im on the floor and he hugs me when he kisses me he sometimes nips me as well, is this accidental do you think?
He will if i go to give him a nice kiss and he is not facing me although im stroking him, sometimes he turns around and opens his mouth as if he were going to bite me.
Im just want to make sure he will be ok and wont be nippy around other people when he is older and accidentally nip a child. On our walk today Patch got a new friend, a little boy fell in love with him and i was scared he might try and nip him when he was on his belly, although i was holding his leash tight incase of this. (he didnt and he was fine although i was worried when he was licking the boy incase he nipped instead)
Sorry for the essay!

Re: Question For You
I honestly think he will grow out of it and when he nips whilst licking you I honestly believe that they get a bit over excited and they can't lick you quick enough so they nip, mine did it as pups and have never once done it over the age of 4 0r 5 months.

Re: Question For You
Hi Matt
Ohhhhh the joys of puppy & their their little nippers - blooming hurt don't they.
I am sure he will calm down with age - have you tried joining a puppy training class - in my experience they are fantastic - you learn loads and are taught how to get the basics right.
If you ring your vets in the morning they maybe able to recommend one to you.
Our vets run one at their premises twice per week - where about do you live? Leeds etc?

Re: Question For You
Hi Matt
Pups will calm down with time - you could always look in your phone directory it should list a few training classes - try and go with one with is qualified - but I find these so valubale - you learn the basics from sit to walking through a door before your pooch.
Its a great way to share your experiences too - plus you get to meet other peoples pups - it's great fun too
The only wee bit of advice I can give to you is try and recognise when Patch gets hyper and stop the play - this way should prevent him & teach him that jumping up and trying to nip at your face is not a game.
It just take time though - if you play at Patch's level and get him too excited then he will have a tendancy to do this.
I am sure you will work it out - good luck

Re: Question For You
in order to stop him nipping you need to stop making it fun and exciting for him! im sure it all over excitement but as they get older ig you dont nip it in the bud (excuse the pun lol) it can become a problem, if you want it to stop i suggest simply saying "ah ah" whenever he does it, and turn away from him with your arms folded, only when he calms down will you continue to show him attention. Do this consistently and he'll soon learn that only calm behaviour gets him what he wants- your attention
