Getting him used to his lead.

Post by lakey700 on Sat Jun 28, 2008 11:01 am

I have a 10 week old named Diesel. He is due his 2nd injection on Tuesday, so it isn't long until he can go out. I have taken him in the garden on his lead. Once the lead is on he will do anything to get it off. He jumps and flips around and sometimes just sits there and digs he paws in. Does anyone have any suggestions on getting him used to the lead? Many thanks.

Ben

Do you have any toy or something he really likes. You can try to get his attention with that. So if he jumps etc. you can make it a game. Call him and hold his favourite thing so he wants to come and praise him with your voice. Don't pull the lead, just make it a joyfull thing for him.

Hi Lakey Welcome wave

Marian has given you some good tips winking

My boy hated his too, as i started him on a puppy harness, he wears one now though,

Just keep on getting him used to it, reward him with treats and lots of praise when he moves forward, never drag him along, use a ball and encourage him to fetch it, soon he will be running around with you :-bd

Turbo used to hate walking with the lead/leash. What I did was.....put the lead on and droped it and started to walk. Turbo followed me draging his lead. Now hes used to the lead and walks great right next to me on the lead. I think puppies just needs to get used to being on a lead. Turbo now love to walk on the lead.....he gets all excited the moment he see the lead/leash now....its quite funny!!
Good luck!!!

That was when he was 6-8 weeks old, he wasn't used to the lead. He's over 12 weeks old now, and does fine walking on the lead now. The lead was/is too heavy but I don't put the wieght of the led on turbo so its fine. He loves walking!! Big grin
