2 Male Staffies?
First topic message reminder :
Hi
I'm new to the site but need some advise. I currently have a male staff who is almost 2 years old and I have recently seen another male staff at a rescue home. I instantly feel for the second dog and would like to give him a home.
The staff there said that the staffy was extremely soft and that he would mix with any dogs. This filled me with confidence. I decided to take my staff to see the one in the home to see if they got on ok. When they were together initially my staff tried to play with the rescue one and when the rescue one tried to pick up the toy my staff got v. aggressive towards him (in fact he has started to get aggressive towards other dogs recently too which he has never done before).
The staff said that they were trying to find out who was boss and all was fine. We spent an hour with the dogs together and they were fine, mine showed no agression and they walked fine together, no further jealous etc...
The staff assured me that they would be a good match as the new one instantly surrendoured and the pecking order had been decided (but surely as the new one matures and grows in confidence this may change)?
I decided to go for the second staff and signed details but have since been advised that mixing two staffs together is a huge mistake.
I am at work four hours in the morning, go home for an hour lunch time and go back to work for a further 3 hours in the afternoon. The dogs would be left alone together and I am trying to figure out whether or not this is a good idea. I have read that two males staffs will kill each other over any small mistake of glance etc.. and I obviously couldn't bear this for either of them.
Can anyone give any advise on two male staffs, experience they've had with the staffs and general feedback.
This would help me so much and I appreciate any info.
Thanks in advance

this is what you could get if you found to have a ban dog.The Maximum penalty for possessing a banned dog is a fine of 5,000 or six months imprisonment, or both
Yeh I saw this not good hey! my partner is not happy but is going to see the pups owner tomorrow see what the story is etc... give them the benefit of the doubt - but i'm not up for breaking the law and taking the risk, there is no rush for the puppy i'd rather wait. i only paid 100 for my boy as well, so like you say I thought that 300 was pricey! I'm going to spend some time looking around the weekend etc.. xx

Re: 2 Male Staffies?
Any rescue centre worth it's salt will not rehome a male staff when there is already a male in the house hold.
I would do some work with your current dog to see how he gets on and then if you feel you want another dog - get a bitch.

Re: 2 Male Staffies?
I know how it is when you want a gorgeous staffy puppy but it breaks my heart when people buy dogs from adverts...people usually breed staffys to make some money and there wouldn't be a market if people weren't buying them. There are literally millions of gorgeous staffys in rescue centres, even pups sometimes too.

Re: 2 Male Staffies?
Have the parents been health tested for H2 LGA HC and PHPV? It is important when buying a pup from a 'breeder' that these health tests have been done - if they haven't then this 'breeder' is a BYB and only in it for the money! Are they KC reg?
I know when you see pups it's hard not to fall in love with them - but their future health needs to be concidered and only a decent breeder will have done all these health tests.
Also it is worth asking them - if there are any problems in the future that they will take this pup back - make them put that in the contract if it isn't already!

I own 2 males
i have 1 male staffy (Lucky) and 1 male pitbull terrier(Cyrus) ! Both have amazing strength. Cyrus id the alpha male and lucky is mentally submissive! However lucky will never physically submitt, so ALL HELL BREAKS LOOSE! These dogs have fought, (as we are throwing water to break it up, hair is flying and it is hard to get stopped at times.) This is why 2 males are not advised!
On the other hand after doing battle, these dogs will lick each others wounds and cuddle up in one dog bed. They have managed to live together for 5 years, with doggie battle about 1-2 times a year! So if you di this learn your dogs body language to avoid these fights. And be prepared to break it up if u have to! I reccomend water, large sticks (these are intimidating), and if you have to YELL really loud (to stun the battling beast) but dont get yourself bit! Our animals are like my kids so we take very good care of them, but an occasional fight is unavoidable! So good luck!

Re: 2 Male Staffies?
I would reccomend a pitbull to any one! they are amazing therapy dogs for the sick and elderly, they are loyal, very intelligent and great with small children. Please dont ban the breed ban the deed!! Do your research they are beautiful animals from the 15th century, Hellen Keller had one, so they really make great companions!!! I have personally raised kids with them for over 5 years now and have had no problems with aggression what so ever. I can turn my back and know my daughter is in good hands with these loyal dogs!!

Hi and welcome to the forum.
Would you mind introducing yourself in our new members section and posting some pics of your dogs? Also please fill out your profile ------>>>
Pitbulls are unfortunately banned in many countries and if you're found with one it will be put down and you will be fined with possible jailtime.

Re: 2 Male Staffies?
personally i'd rather have two males than two females. After having a fight and restablishing the pecking order males if they haven't killed one another will kiss and make up(until the next time they want to test Alpha dog). Females with females on the other hand if they decide to fight it will happen time and time again until one is dead. They can be extremely territorial males just want to be the alpha of there territory. Male/female best combo then Male/male never unless you are very experienced with bull breeds female/female. As was stated above staffords don't give off the normal warning signals they just tend to be into and worry about the consequences later. I've made the mistake of thinking i understood my dog only to find out all wasn't as it seemed it's a heart wrenching thing to happen. So be very careful with what you choose.

Re: 2 Male Staffies?
I would recommend male/female in a pack and agree with the above reference the make up of a pack.

Re: 2 Male Staffies?
I have had 2 entire male staffords live together very successfully......BUT..and this is a big BUT.....I NEVER< NEVER leave them together unattended.
If I do to work, they are crated separately in the same room.
If I am busy, one is with me and the other is not.
You cant be too careful with entire staffords, you never know what will set them off.
Ive never had a fight, not ever, but then I am vigilant and dont really give them a chance.....

Hello
Just wanted to say we currently have 2 entire male SBT and we advocate exactly this - you can never let your guard down - it is hard work - but we are a very happy home
I would never tell anyone to put 2 males together - it is a risk - but if reared in the correct way it can work
In saying this I would say go for a female - I am also surprised the rescue centre were happy to re home a male into this environment - but they obvioulsy have their reasons
