Terrier Has Whopping Fourteen Pups

[b]A Staffordshire bull terrier has given birth to a staggering fourteen puppies, her owner said today.







Patch was in labour for ten hours producing her huge litter.
She mothered seven males and seven females.
Chris Rogers, 26, who owns the two-and-a-half year old bull terrier, said it looked like she gave birth to two litters:
"She started at about 5.40pm on Sunday night and didn't finish until half three in the morning.
"We knew she was having babies but we had no idea how many.
"She got really big but I just thought it would be about eight puppies.
"When she got to 10 my friend said he thought she was done, but they still kept on coming."
Mr Rogers and his partner Lisa George, 38, paired Patch with Lisa's one-year-old Staffordshire bull terrier Brian to breed them.
The couple, from South Wigston, Leicester, are having to help Patch feed her huge litter.
Chris added: "They're all beautiful and healthy, but Patch only has nine nipples and there's 14 of them so she needs a bit of help.
"We've been rotating the puppies to make sure they can all feed and I've got some formula to help Patch out because it's pretty tiring for her."
Homes have been found for most of the puppies and there is a long list of people waiting to see them.
Patrick McGlynn, chairman of the Staffordshire Bull Terrier Breed Council of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, said although this size was not unheard of, it was uncommon.
"The problem will be that they will have to feed the puppies in relays, the bitch has not got that many teats.
"She'll also need lots of extra food, as any mother does, but especially in this case.
"It's really quite unusual to get a litter that big, the average litter size is about five pups."
He said: "It's very very unusual, it really is a very big litter.[/b]

She looks great doesn't she...poor girl though 14 pups, she is going to be drained after a few weeks.

14 pups is that a record for a staffie?

well i haven't got lasts years , staffyyear book but in 2006's there is a litter of 14 and 5 of 13 i think

havn't the owners as well as the proud mum got their work cut out . Thats a huge litter!

I thought Charlie came out of a large litter of 12 but 14 is quite something.

It is nice to see some good news for a change about Staffs in the media, the other thing I noticed with staffs, a child can normaly pick up a staff pup and the mother wont mind, as were some other breeds of dogs would be over protective. I noticed this when we went looking at litters with the kids, we looked at a litter of week old staffs and both mother and father were great when handling

all them littile puppys man that is going to be heck tik.....

its got to be a record for a staff surely....

it mainly for show results scott, but has some facts and figures in, it's bit of a bible to see whats going on in show world, and up and coming staffies.
