Man 'strangles dog' after park attack




Police are trying to trace a man captured on CCTV walking from a Birmingham park seconds after appearing to strangle his dog to death.

West Midlands Police appealed for witnesses to the alleged killing, which followed an attack on a four-year-old boy as he played in Washwood Heath Park.

Officers issued the CCTV footage of the man leaving the park with the dog, which officers believe was killed in broad daylight in front of passers-by.

They want to find the owner about the attack and what happened afterwards at around 7:15 p.m on Saturday September 26.

According to police, the man was walking his dog, described as a brown pitbull type, through the park without a lead. It approached a group of young children playing and attacked the four-year-old boy, leaving him with puncture wounds to his head.

After running back to its owner, the man then appeared to strangle the dog and try to put it in a bin bag before leaving the park.

The dog owner is described as being of Asian appearance, approximately 5'10", in his mid 30's and dressed in a cream hooded jumper and blue jeans.

An ambulance was called to the scene and the little boy was treated for small puncture wounds to his head. He was treated at hospital and released the same night.

Sgt Alan Hands, from Nechells Green police station, said: 'This was an horrific incident. It was terrifying for the little boy who was attacked and bitten by this dog which was not properly controlled on a lead.

'When it returned to the owner he appeared to destroy the dog with no regard for those who witnessed his actions or the animal itself without checking to see if the child was hurt. He is clearly not a responsible pet owner in any regard and we would urge anyone with information to contact police.

i had just read the same story on bbc news 24 how awful it was not the dogs fault and perhaps yes it should be pts but humanely strangling in my eyes just shows the kind of person that owned him , heres the news link if you are interested

just read this glad the little boy ok,whats the dogs owner letting his dog loose in a park full of children,hope they catch him n strangle him,likes of scum like that give the dogs a bad name

Good luck finding him with that description. Must be just about every second man in washwood heath! Hmm the dog must have worshipped him to have just let him strangle him poor thing. Dog probably was not even mildly related to an Amstaff(what i prefer to call them) just they get the blame cause it grabs peoples attention.

Creative license. "Pit bull type" refers to anything from a chihuahua to a great dane. Makes for a better headline cos the readership knows when they hear "pit bull type" they has the fear^tm If they read "labrador" it would just confuse them.

That's just awful. I hope the little boy's OK, but how the hell can you strangle a dog to death? How can you do that? Make's you wonder how he was treating to poor thing behind closed doors, if he was capable of doing something like that in a park. a******e!!!

I wonder how many charges this sorry excuse for a human being would be liable or should be liable for..
